Good news! There have been no deadlocks (not one!) for about 4 days now!!!
I'm calling this one well and truely FIXED!
For any geeks... Lock escalations were disabled on the SQL instance which prevented shared locks escalating into conflicts.
3 times on the trot trying to access Online Members i have gotten :_
