I'm about to remove the rust from inside a classic petrol tank and seal it, been meaning to do this for some time. I've heard some good reports about the POR15 kit, don't really mind the expense (£45) if it does a decent job but are there any alternatives you'd recommend?
Not had much to do with any of these products
But I do know of people who used "Petseal" in the 60's & 70's
How they are managing these days with the ethanol additives is unknown
But research and "reading up" is highly recommended
Try these for a start I72

I did a tank on a Kwak 1000 with a product from Frost's its a 3 part job very strong solution then flushing solution then a paint did a great job. Pet seal is no good now the new fuel is braking it down in the tanks and causing loads of issues
I72, there was an article in a recent edition of "Classic Motorcycle Mechanics" regarding this exact problem of suitable tank sealers resistant to Ethanol based fuels. Sadly, I can`t remember if it was 2 or 3 months ago. If you can find a copy it will probably help to decide which 1 to go for.
I used this to do two of my tanks: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KBS-Fuel-Gas-Tank-Sealer-Kit-does-up-to-25-gallon-tank-/141235814909?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20e24f81fd
xs750 tank=result, had to weld a patch plate to cover a weak spot on the underside of the tank near the fuel-tap, then used this kit. That was two years ago and not one drop of fuel seen on outside of tank and it looks lovely clean, solid and smooth on the inside (its got a smooth silver finish)
Zephyr750 tank=mmmmmm? tank wasnt leaking but i had enough of the KBS to do this tank as well...happy days. Now, i have had a few small weeps from around the tank seams, but i believe this is from the tank expanding in hot weather, which is when its most noticable. no leaks at all in winter!! I think its NOT related to the KBS product, as i say the xs750 tank is now solid and leak free after treatment so i would recommend it on that basis.
check all their products cos hey have different sizes and types of sealants.
