Yep, its commercial b*ll*cks and an excuse for florists to put thier prices up. If you love somone you should always show it. And it doesnt mean you have to be buying things. Little gestures or hand made gifts seem to be appreciated more than a fluffly teddy from the card shop...
It is over commercialised, but it doesn't have to be. Although there are women and men out there who believe gifts have to be expensive to mean anything, there are many others who appreciate little special things - breakfast in bed, a special ride out, a rose....whatever.
Valentines is not something I've ever had much to do with - this year the decision of a card or not was taken out of my hands, so I guess this year will not be the exception. haha.
Yes, if you love someone you should show them all year round, but there is nothing wrong with showing them just a little more on a special day. Heck, the fact that some men even remember what day it is, is sometimes good enough.
X10 - Lighten up, this is meant to be a light 'ed look at valentines day.
Of course valentines day is commercial! Lol. - So is Easter, Christmas and errm...birthdays. Its as commercial as your wallet wants it to be. - And really, is it such a bad thing to go and BUY something for someone you fancy/love?
Hey heres a thing, buying stuff also helps businesses that we supply, and in turn helps us keep jobs. It all helps.
Funny how many folks have commented on how 'showing your love' - shouldn't be confined to just one day. Of course not, Duh! In other news water is wet.
What was supposed to be a fun topic once again turns into negativity.
What was supposed to be a fun topic once again turns into negativity.
Don't think it's so much negativity Dyna, just the way people feel about it.
Valentine's day is great for people that want to express how they feel if they're not naturally inclined to do so.
It's a fun day for folk that want it to be fun, but can also be a very disappointing day for others hence why I think the topic has invoked the posts it has....
On a 'lighter' note - Many moons ago I was the fortunate receipent of 5 cards on Valentines day. I was boasting to my then boyfriend who didn't seem to be too phased by it. In the end after looking at the cards a zillion times trying to work out the handwriting I realised each card had an intitial written in them and they spelt out his name!!!!
dyna,, did you really think deep down everybody was going to say how wonderfull valentines day is?? its not so hot for those guys and girls who dont have a partner,, its just another ocassion to remind them their on their own
That's life Dyna - how many times have you ever contacted a help desk to do something other than complain. People rarely give a positive opinion cos they don't see the need.
Anyway, I think Valentines Day is the biggest pile of commercialsed s**t known to man.
Only joking, my real opinion if you are racking your brains on buying for a lover is don't buy anything - either they are self centred and have bought themselves everything that they want, or, you don't know them well enough so rather than buy something, spend some time with them. Or, harking back to another thread, send them a couple of texts, that should do it.
I was already seeing him Dyna, then he ran off with another woman and married her Maybe it should have spelt out I M L E A V I N G U
Others must have some funny/romantic Valentines stories... be good to hear 'em
<!--6e052d28b1806771e2d163a041d4a5d4-->Having been married for 34 years let me put my twopence worth in, for me its a day on which I can make my wife feel really special and loved, not any more than on any other day but just to pamper her and make sure she's good. As for her to me well a pair of socks and a slushy card and thats it, breakfast in bed, no chance, not in the last 34 years anyway.
As for any negative posts I just read them and let them go whoosh over my left shoulder. Lifes too short, oh but thats another topic somewhere isn't it.
*'In other news water is wet' As I found whilst walking the dog this morning in the rain.........
As for valentines day it doesn't remind me that I'm alone, I don't spend all day crying into my cuppa cos no one bought me anything. I'll be at college having a laugh and moan about life in general with my friends, just like any other day. Some people show their love by spending money, others don't have money to spend so show it in other ways. Some people just don't care about valentines day. Each to their own and whatever makes them happy, and whatever 'your own' is I hope everyone is happy on the 14th.
I love romance, flowers, chocs and all the rest, you are right guys though it shouldn't be just the one day, but its nice to have that special day that's just for you ahhhhh
As for me I wont be getting anything I don't have a Valentine hehe
Funny gifts Once my X husband got me a tax disc holder for my bike!!! another year he got me a weighing scales, see why he's an X lmao
Not sure I'd appreciate the scales either - especially if they were bathroom scales.
To me the best gift would be something that you can see they obviously saw and thought "she would love this", even if they only paid -20p for it. Either that or a BIG box of JD chocs.
