Tell your friend its an idea to get her international licence from the post office before she goes - I think it costs a tenner or there abouts and she'll need a passport photo to go in it. I think its valid for a year once signed.
also have a look at these sites, they might give her some info that will help but I think doing your licence does differ from state to state but I could be wrong!
