Le Bossu: A sword-fighty 17th Century period French film, back in the days when national service was the norm for young men.
LeGardier (LG) talking to the famed Duke de Nevers (DN) in the fencing salon (paraphrased from the dialogue in French);
DN: Hadn't you enlisted?
LG: I was discharged, mi'lord.
DN: Honourably?
LG: I killed a colonel.
DN: Admirable...
LG: My own colonel...
DN: (disapprovingly) Oh, I see...
LG: Over a woman.
DN: Well, that's understandable, then.
LG: His wife.
DN: (Looks horrifed)
It's actually a great fun film with some great dialogue and a lovely story (a French fairy tale classic, I believe). It's around a PG-rating, so don't expect much sex and violence, but being a fencing film, people do die and the evil henchman (Peyrolles) is a pretty disturbed and disturbing motherf**ker.... Would not want to meet him in a dark alley!!!
Either the bit where Samuel L Jackson shoots the bloke on the sofa and says "I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?"
Or maybe the bit where the problem fixer shows up... Erm... Wolf? Particularly the line: "Now, you've got a corpse in a car, minus a head, in a garage. Take me to it. "
The Curse of the Golden Flower... all of it... beautiful beautiful cinematography... fabulous colours... nice twists in the story... I just love it & I'd forgotten all about it until this thread, so thanks TM :o)
