Charge light used to go out almost immediately after starting up my old R80 but now light flickers all the time and battery doesn't receive the charge it should and letting me down after a week or so. Have replaced the voltage regulator, diode board, alternator brushes and skimmed the commutator with no difference ! Any ideas anyone before I rip the wiring out looking for a break somewhere? Thx Billyboy

HI BB. only other thing i can think of, because you've already checked other things that i would have asked, is the ignition switch going to ground. So when you turn of your bike the system is still active, causing it to drain power.

Hi BB I've had a couple of BMW airheads over the years, and they often do funny electrical things. For a start I'd join the BMW club forum, which you can do without being a club member. I'd also say to join the Motobins forum, which is very helpful, but it's been down for a fortnight now for some reason. Then there's also the IBMWR website, US-based and a mine iof BMW knowledge. I found this page, which might help: http://www.ibmwr.org/r-tech/airheads/charging.info.shtml Otherwise it sounds to me like a dodgy earth somewhere which ciould be a PITA to track down. Apologies if I'm telling you how to suck eggs, BTW.
