... many of you, whom I've met on BM rides out, events, or generally socialising, will know that my brother, Mike, has been very ill, suffering from the effects of Cystic Fibrosis.
You may also recall that he has been a resident in Wythenshawe hospital awaiting a lung transplant, and that I have extended an invitation to one and all to join the National Organ Transplant register, to show your loved ones and doctors that you want your organs used to save others after your death.
It is with deep sadness and regret that I have to tell you that yesterday, 7th December at 8.15pm, Mike passed away. He was sedated and suffered no discomfort or stress. He was attended to by his favourite Nurses, and both Michelle (SV_Shell) and I were present when he died.
Although it's too late for Mike, once again, I'd like to invite you to register on the National Organ Donor Register, so that in the event of your death, you may help someone in Mike's position.
Apologies to Matt for posting a direct link, but if you'd like to register, please click here: http://www.uktransplant.org.uk/ukt/default.jsp
RIP mate. You'll be missed.
There is a line from a song that springs to mind for several reasons ... the greatest gift they'll get this year is life.
Mike loved his life & would not be beaten by CF, no matter what, he carried on with his drag racing, even when he was ill he still went on, he loved his life & lived it.
The other reason tho is more somber, mike was told 3 years ago he needed a double lung transplant, one which sadly never happened,
So I say sleep sweetly Mike, I will miss you, your spirit, your love of life, your cheekey grin, I learnt a lot from knowing you & I am so glad I did.
And to everyone else, I know this has been said before, but if you can, please think about giving the gift of life, register to be a donor if you can & if your beliefs allow it, please give someone the gift of life when your gone.

I'm really sorry for your loss.
Thankfully he went peacefully, as i'm sure we'd all like to when our time comes.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
So sorry to hear your sad news I too have been on the donor register for years, if there is anything useful to anyone when I pop my clogs they are more than welcome to it xxx
Thankyou to everyone from both of us for your thoughts and words.
Mike was a fighter who would not let anything keep him down, and all the way through was making plans for after he got a transplant, he even cleared it with 'Prof' (his consultant) that he would one day drag race again.
