Thanks for tour guiding slidey, much appreciated, I'll pay you in Cidre ! I don't know that end at all, but yes a bit of a ride, probably best to do it on the way down as slideys lot did. Don't worry about stuff, I'll sort some Pizzas for the first night. Sunday morning we can blast to the shops in the morning ( closed in the afternoon ) to get some bits for your tea, We'll be eating out at lunch time. Seems very close now !!
Hello everyone, been off line for a while just lots to do and finishing late, But on the good note, the days are passing by and not long at all now.
See you very sooon
Remind me please what time you get into port, and what time you think you'll arrive on the Saturday
Is it still 10 days ?? Got a festival this weekend then it'll be almost next weekend yeahhhh x
Mic, We arrive in Le Havre at 8am on Sat 23rd... Think its about 5 hours with tea stops to you but we may stop longer on the way over as I would like to see the Normandy Beach where the landings took place all those years ago.

The question is - Which Beach - I believe there are 5 of them with one or 2 other slightly historic places in between. We will also be fairly close to Bayeux which is also worth a visit.
Totally agree with you about doing some sight-seeing, but we need to plan what and where. If we try to take it all in we will end up doing a whistle-stop tour and seeing very little.
My suggestion would be to head for Arromanche and Gold beach where there are the remains of the Mulberry harbour, Then Head for Bayeux where there is the tapestry and the museum, and if we have time, Sainte Mere Eglise which I believe was the first town liberated in France. There is a museum there as well. Then head back on route for the Gite.
Don't know if that is all possible - Mickey what do you think.
John
Never been up that way, but I'll ask around the legion folks here. You can check in when you like. It's the festival of music that weekend so most towns will have stuff going on from afternoon through the night. My lad is playing Bass at a concert in Pontivy, just south of Us I don't know what time yet, shouldn't be too late as he's only 9, but then this is France and Age and time to come into it !!
I'll get back soon with suggestions and we'll go from there x
I would recommend Gold beach near Arromanches as it was one of the British beaches & then the British went on to capture Arromanches. There is also a very good museum at Arromanches & you can still see parts of the Mulberry Harbour particularly from the car park of the Arromanches 360 cinema just east of the town.
Having done the overlord/d-day stuff a few times I can recommend the museum at bayeux,if you're going there it's a shame not to go to the tapestry as well,Arromanches is a nice town with a good museum, recommend the cinema 360 which brings home what kicked off in June 1944,St Mere Eglise museum very good too.Omaha beach is the 'famous' one featured in Saving Private Ryan and has an absolutely enormous US cemetery. Not viable to do justice to all that lot in a day though.....
Thanks Mickey for looking those up. Couldn't read the 2nd one fully, but got the idea that Arromanche and Sainte Mere Eglise could be interesting. I have been to Bayeux so I know that is worth visiting.
Just put a Route through AutoRoute
Le Havre
Arromanche
Bayeux
Sainte Mere Eglise
Saint Aignan.
Total distance 281 miles
Leave Le Havre at 9:00
Arrive Saint Aignan about 19:00
Long day, but allowed for 1 hour at Arromanche, 2 hours at Bayeux and 1 hour at Sainte Mere Eglise.
Have to wait until we all get together and see what everyone thinks.
