Sorry if my comment doesn't please you Matt, but would you like to hear the truth or would you rather have someone blow sunshine into your ear? If it helps, keeping the present look and feel to the site, if possible, would be a good starting place, while doing whatever you have to do to bring the site up to date, in the background. Some features were lost in the last revamp of the site, the one that sticks in mind was the ability to watch and join the chatroom from the forums main page without having to enter a forum first.
Sorry Matt but every time we have given you ideas about how we would like the site to look or how things could be better we get. Your wrong I'm right. When issues come up that need your immediate attention your never around. So as Double six said, do you want us to say it as we see it blow hot air up your ass. Now you tell me where is Biker Match standing out from all the other sites ? What makes me want to stick around and see what's happening ? Why would new members feel like they have found a decent site that has something to offer. You have taken the sole out of bm the picture that is across the top of the page from the 1st Kiss rally and replaced it with the top off a random bike picture. This is Biker Match not some 2 bit poxy shit American site that we can sign up a $9.99 for 3 months. You chose to change the site without asking us what we wanted you say it has to be done for mobile use so is it that I cant do anything with my mobile on the new site.
Dont worry about me saying anything else you wont like I will only be posting on the Barmouth camp thread then I will leaving BM after that event is over Thank's for the last 9 years and all the friends I have gained over that time but I don't think the new site is for me
The chatroom isn't finished yet.... it's not even started. I think you'll be very happy when I've made it. My plan is to make it follow every logged-in person around every page of the website. You'll be able to just slide it open and slide it closed as and when you like. It will also flash away in the corner to let you know when there's new messages. No popup boxes or 2nd screens (doesn't really work on mobiles).
And JP - what constructive feedback have you guys given? All I hear is that it's "sterile", or "bland" or that it's not personal anymore etc. Doesn't help at all.
No, I don't want hot air blowing up my arse. Feedback about design problems, bugs, things people want to see changed is exactly what I'm looking for. But hearing people just say it's shit, boring, bland etc helps nobody.
I will see how/if I can fit the old banner of people from KISS rally across the top. Maybe behind the top logo on every page. I agree it's a nice thing to have but it might just not fit the design now. I might have to find somewhere else for it on the homepage
Matt as you know I know sweet fa about computer stuff would it be possable to have a rolling background screen showing event photos instead of the sterile screen there are 1000s of them and members could send them in for addition to the system . You will probably tell me it can't be done which is why I very rarely offer ideas
I agree with JP that the banner if possible should be put back at the top and any pics used should be of BM folk or BM events rather than generic ones.
Maybe the old site peaks folks interest because it does look so different to other sites out there.
I get the impression by talking to folk, they like the new updated features of the new site but are iffy about the overall look. The most common phrase i have heard with regards to its appearance is it doesnt look like a site run by bikers for bikers, it looks 'corporate'.
I joined BM because it didnt look like somebody was running it 'to make money' but for folks to enjoy like minded activities.
JP That's absolutely possible! I can make like a big collage of 100 pictures for example, which that fades out and changes to other pics every 10 seconds. Or, for example, shuffles around. Adds a bit of movement to the page so it's less static. It will have to be a collage though. The problem with using individual pictures is that some of them just wont fit in with the style of the page they're on, or may be inappropriate for the homepage etc. For example, it might just be a crappy blurry pictures of someones bike tyre.... I'm not gonna blow that up to 100% of the screen width and have it as a "highlight" photo.
For now I've added the KISS photo to the top of every page. 2 versions, one wide-screen for desktops, clipping some folks like myself off the bottom. And one a little bit taller for mobiles (but had to clip some people off the side)
Then I've added a 90% transparent background of some stock photos (bikes, biker couples, people riding, etc) around the other items on the homepage. Not done it on other pages for now, want to see if you guys like it first.
Jackie, thanks for the feedback. Think I understand. I'm trying to make it more "personal" and less corporate. It's a slow process though of adding and changing bits here and there.
Please can you guys tell me what you think of the changes I've made now? Only on the homepage. Try also on mobile and see what you think.
And I get what you're saying about some folks finding the old site less corporate-looking, which to be fair was true. But the truth is that it also looks tacky, very outdated (I made it over a decade ago!) and 70% of visitors can't even use it properly (mobiles).
A new site was/is necessary. I hope I can bring back the "personal" feel without the "tacky" look.
Marsha hates the old site's design by the way. As someone who doesn't use either site and looks at the both side by side, she can't believe why I've waited so long to update the site. The new site is a billion times cleaner, faster and more secure.
I'm gonna get to work on the events collage now for JP.
Another thing (maybe small point) that I've noticed on the new site is that I can't zoom anything on my phone screen. As I only have a small-ish phone - iPhone SE with 4" screen - zooming was handy on the 'old' site when I was away from the laptop.
Jp, do you know how to make a screenshot on your phone to show me? If not just put into Google "how do I make a screenshot on HTC xxxxx". Can you install chrome on the HTC phone? It could be you're using the standard browser which might not have been updated in years.
Panuno, it's because I'm controlling the zoom within the code to keep control of the design. I will see what I can do to unlock the zoom but it might not be possible. Promise I'll try though
Well I'm back now from my holidays. Struggling to catch up with everything but I'm trying.
The forums work fine, I've been posting all morning in them via the new website. Can you please confirm for me HOW you are trying to access the forums? What links are you clicking as there's several ways to get there. I just go to https://beta.bikermatch.co.uk - click Menu at the top left - then forums.
Regarding profile photos, I'll check when I'm home. It could be to do with the maximum limit I have set (I think it's now at 2,000) because Apple products cannot handle too many.
You can now EDIT your profile on the new website: https://beta.bikermatch.co.uk/myaccount/edit-profile.asp
For info: On the old/current site you can view and edit your own profile in one page. This is no longer the case on the new site! On the new site you must view your profile and edit it on different pages
To navigate to this page... Homepage > Menu > My Account > Edit Profile
