How quickly do we have to book ferry before its fully booked - just checked and its £70 return (sleeping in seat) - never taken the bike abroad before and would love to give it a go - just a bit unsure about ferries,correct documents,insurance etc
@zed rider, if you go to the ld lines wedsite there is a tab that says "good to know" and that got the info on there on what you need to take.

Check your bike insurance most policies cover you for EU counties automatically. also you may have EU breakdown insurance already included, but make sure it covers you for repatriation of bike aswell. You'll need a European Health Card. this entitles you you to the french equivillant of the NHS. They are available on line free from the nhs site other sites charge you. Also you'll need travel insurance. Breathalyser kits for France are available from Halfords £5.99
