We've all seen societies/teams/clubs doing fundraisers for themselves, and I really can't imagine that people who volunteer their free time and expertise to say, coach the local kids' footie team, are also going to declare any fundraising for said team as their own personal income and end up having to pay tax on it... there has to be another way, surely... and don't call me Shirley ;o)
You are certainly correct Matt I went to see the works lawyer today and basically he said everything that Matt has said ..however there is a good side to it..if we register as a new business then for the first 2 years they usually pay very little tax or no tax at all...as for the charity thing the monies that go to a charity are purely voluntary. Well it's eased my mind anyways
I Haven't checked on the legalaties as yet but have been involved in fundraisers for many years(usually sports related)and have never either had to pay tax or declare myself a buisness.This night is and will be advertised as a fundraiser not a charity night.The friendly bikers will not be making any kind of personal profit from any fundraiser and detailed accounts are to be kept to prove this.Please be aware there is a huge difference between a charity night and a fundraiser and as far as i'm aware(and i will be taking legal advice to clarify)as long as you inform people where the money is going and have decent accounts to back this up there is no problem.
Things certainly looking a lot brighter now , big smiles all round
Now we just need to look at promoting the fundraiser .

Forgot to mention earlier,your right bout the cricket club Dougald,but as i understood it they will also be doing there own thing to raise funds.Not clear if the idea is we raise ours and they raise theirs or just a straight split,but either way as long as they are doing their bit i for one have no problem with that.
That sounds a bit more like it Cassie Couldn't see how all these clubs/teams/societies could ever survive if the volunteers were having to pay "income" tax on funds raised for their activities...
