define crappy Matt, some people are able to say what they want in half a dozen words, does that mean their opinion is not relevant? personally i agree with moonstone, think your time and efforts could be better spent elsewhere,a gallery for example,so peeps can see what great fun we have. a couple of days ago i started a new thread, sent and recieved half a dozen pms and posted on half a dozen forums, result; karma dropped by 2%.don't understand your system and don't see the need for most popular either.surely peeps can decide that for themselves?

I could be mistaken, but I believe small crappy posts were previously defined... e.g. countdown posts when folk are heading towards their 100/1000th post etc and smiley only types...

That's not to say you've to write an essay, just that posts consisting of "14 Barbecue" or "hugs hun lol" or "" aren't making all that much of a contribution, so won't be counted towards karma.

Character count is the simplest way to achieve that. Either that or employ someone to go through the forums to exclude those posts they believe unworthy of karma.

Actually... I'm still looking for work

Shell read the info page again. I'm sure Matt has said that it's not just what YOU do but what others do. In other words if someone else inputs more then your count will drop. Don't ask me to explain cos I was born confused and is blonde most of the time

Blonde moments I dont even try to understand it Quack .. all I know is that its up & down more than a brides nightie on her wedding night. Not that it has any effect on me as I am here for the social side of things anyways... but it is confusing

thanks WB, spot right on again my good spokeswoman friend! I don't see why it's so hard to understand. A crappy little post are the the "LOL" and "yee haaa"' messages. Why? Because some people had ridiculously high karma becuase of spamming the forum. When 1 person has a really high Karma, that bumps down everyone elses (Who's % is based on the number 1 person's Karma!). And for those who keep complaining that "oh ive posted 2 posts and my karma has gone down" consider this... The Karma only counts your last X days of forum posts with a character count of greater than Z characters If X days ago you posts 2x the posts you posted today, then your Karma for that particular day will be worth 2x the Karma your posts are worth today. So, as X days have passed, the Karma is only going to count your posts from today, not those from X days ago.So, if you made 50 posts this time a month ago, but only 5 today, then your Karma WILL DROP when them 50 posts stop being counted!!!!So it doesn't matter than you posted a couple of posts today, you posted more this time last week/month/year (Or whatever it is, i'm not telling you lol). And also, if the person at the number 1 spot posts 10x more posts today than you do, then of course their Karma will go up more than yours - hence your Karma % will go DOWN because it's based on THEIR Karma. Would you all please trust me that the system is fair and stop complaining when your Karma drops... there is a good reason and I can give you a precise reason for your particular Karma if you're really that bothered. And my Karma is high because I get an extra X Karma points (not %) for being staff. All staff get the same X points extra. This gives us a boost because we spend a lot of time (a lot!) doing other things for the site and not necessarily joining in with all the forum posting, chatroom posting, etc. Think how much time a moderator spends checking photos and profile... but none of this gets counted, hence they get a little extra in the Karma calculations. I could write a book about this new Karma system, but it still wouldn't satisfy all of you.

oh, and my post above will count as ONE POST towards my Karma (Not one point, and not one %, but one POST which goes into the big calculation). This post now will not count, if that helps give you an idea of what is and what isn't counted :-)

Still confused ... as I have only been a member for 6 weeks ,... sso depending on the days that its counted on .. if say 90 days or 60 days . then I am still on the increase ... but my Karma is still bobbing up & down. I give up ... treat it like teenagers.. they are there, we are stuck with them ... but dont try to work them out cos will do your head in !!!

Yeah look, about that Matt... I mean an honourary position is all well & good, but it doesn't pay for cat food y'know!

Anyone who's bothered should go out and buy a Mac & surf with Firefox... you can't see the numbers then, just a blue bar of varying lengths. Sorted

*legs it*

looks like 4% is the extra bit that staff get at the moment then. It will change from day to day depending on how much karma the top person has. 30 karma points get added to staff's karma score. 30 points must equal approx. 4% today then, but tomorrow it could be different
