Yet another gauntlet been thrown to the floor. Also it's not just the fellas that get up to these things.

PD.. i understand what you're saying.. but gotta disagree about the dentist.. that is just the worst possible thing ..ever!!!! I think it should be compulsory to be sedated at every dentists appointment.. * cue the 'no its dangerous to be sedated..blah de blah;' discussions..lol* Yeh Ric i agree with you it is all about respect and the wishes of the individuals. Basically, and I'm sure everyone agrees with me, that NOTHING that would cause upset/distress etc would ever be advocated at any of our meets/rallies etc. Geoff, good idea.. maybe we should ask if anyone is happy about it and would indeed like to be 'initiated' (don't like deflowered..that has as totally different meaning where I come from) then we could arrange something, good humoured. After all this is a FRIENDLY biker rally which has been born out of a friendly biker social site.. and I'm sure we would all like to keep that reputation.

Karey,

You're right in what you're saying but attending your first rally and being asked if you'd like to be initiated will do one or two things. People that want no part in it will feel like party poopers in spite of what geoff said because they're 'refusing'. Some people will feel pressured to go through with it and will never attend their second rally!
If there's a deep routed 'need' to keep the initiation tradition going then respect the people who want no part of it, including going through the 'being asked' scenario.

I think the term tradition should be used loosely. As for feeling like a party pooper, don't worry what other people think. Just enjoy yourself. If they think that of you then you won't change their way of thinking.

Exactly Ric! At the end of the day .. it goes on at SOME rallies.. SOME people enjoy it SOME people don't .. so lets RESPECT everyones wishes and use some common sense... if it aint welcomed or embraced..it dont happen... end of....??

Ricdude,

To be honest mate I couldn't give a toss what people think of me. The people that know me know exactly what i'm about. I know there are a lot of people reading this thread and happy that its being talked about. I'm hoping the traditionalists will realise there's a group of people here who are worth knowing but maybe don't have exactly the same type of personality as you. They call that a clique don't they or is it sheep baaaah

I think the general opinion here is that everyone now agrees that those who want it get it and those that don't won't and will not be thought any less of. Anyone disagree with this? If so shout it out.

Don't ya just love a heated debate? Ok, for what it's worth... I am in a side patch MCC... and have seen RV's initiated in many ways, gentle and some quite extreme. As a club, we do not initiate our RV Members, in fact we will advise people new to the rally scene to keep it quiet. I personally would be very upset if one of our members was humiliated by another club or any group of individuals, whether the member agreed to it or not! When I joined the club as a founder member, I had not been to any rallies in our area for many years. It was my personal choice to keep quiet about it, and this was supported by the other members. That is simply my view as a 'patch' club VP... I personally would rather crawl into a corner and cry for my Mum than be initiated in some of the ways I have seen. BUT, there are people who love it, and volunteer themselves for the initiation, and if it is carried out as a bit of fun, then that surely is their personal choice? c x

i have been to loads of "rallies" i think ??? bulldog, nabd, mcn if thats classed as one, never seen any first timer being initiated, i think it would scare more people off then encourage them to come, on the other hand, if someone tried it with me i would play hell up, why cant you just go to the rally and enjoy it with no worries of this happening.

I believe some form of conclusion has been reached by RicDude , Geoff & Karey's comments, and in a decent manner which should be accepted by all , i've been to many rallies and have ALWAYS enjoyed myself mainly because bikers are a loose family with similar interests in life . Just get together and party !

I think this thread has proved the old theory that fear of the unknown is worse than the actual 'event'.I have personally never seen a rv suffer anything but mild embarassment,i have however heard some horror stories and can understand a lot of the thoughts and comments on this thread. I would like to reiterate what has already been said,no one will be forced to take part in anything they are not happy with,so if your in two minds, please book your tickets with good faith that you will be welcomed, regardless of your opinion on this subject and you will not be pressurised into an initiation of any kind. We are after all the friendly bikers Ricdude bud,the example of the masons was maybe a bad one but may i take the oppurtunity to remind you of another old saying that seems to be relevant here; "ask not what they can do for me,but rather what can i do for them"

if anyone does not want to be apart of a initiation, then that should be there choice, just as long as the rumours of it does not put people off, as so mant people have the wrong impression of us bikers

STELLLAAAAAAAA!!! I think her comments on this as a newly deflowered RV by friendlies could help here. Stella can vouch for the fact that it was all done in good fun not in the horror stories you hear all over (& lets face it if we all believed all the horror stories that have been told to us about child birth not one woman on this site would ever consider having a child), to be honest I have attended scout rallies where the leader has had worse done to them because its their 1st (Phil will prob back me on that one) No one needs to ask the Q ... your a virgin do you want to be initiated, that puts pressure on people, it is something that can come out in a chat 'yeah its my 1st rally & I am looking forward to seeing what happens to an RV' or 'actually although its my 1st rally I am just here to have a laugh & enjoy the weekend' the 2 comments equally make it clear that someone is/isn't up for it. Cassie, I understand what you said about threats & people being up rears, & like you I had read some of the posts that way but as with lots of things, with the written word the tone doesn't always come over, can be taken in many ways & & not all of them are correct.

LOL .. well as I said Ian, if we all believed the horror stories, you guys would be castrated at birth so that us women never got pregnent, lol Back on track tho, its down to a persons choice & that choice can be made without being made to feel singled out in any way or that they have to do it. Many go to a rally & nothing ever happens, many have nice RV stories, many have horror, the friendly bikers want to get away from the 'rough and ready' & 'typical' image, there are many women within the club & all have thier softer side (even thos that are nicknamed Rottie) , just remember that when we all have helmet hair & look like we been dragged through hedges heheeh

For what it's worth, the comments I was making regarding this on the other thread were about people being put off by the fear of RV treatment, not the actual RV treatment itself. It's great that most people's experience has been when RV's specifically announce that they are such and fully expect the treatment... My experience has differed and I've seen people put in extremely unpleasant positions all for saying "Yes, this is my first rally" when asked. My advice to RVs since then has been "If you're asked, lie. Pretend you've been to a rally before. I will back you up" Not wanting to be stripped stark naked and tied to a marquee pole while all and sundry smear goodness knows what all over you doesn't equate to being a party pooper and having your head up your rear... It's a perfectly sane attitude to have IMO. RV treatment can range from the tame to the extreme. Those who have only experienced the tame can be forgiven for thinking that people are making a fuss over nothing.
