I was slowing down approaching traffic lights the other day and some nutter on a scooter decided to over take me and the other cars on the near side! What a nutter! If anyone had climbed out of any car on that side they would have been a goner. Luckily he turned left at the lights other wise there could have been a nasty accident with a car turning left aswell.
i ride 3/4 of the way out so i can be seen by the off side mirror of what evers in front i also take that position if passing a junction on the left because apparently it gives car drivers a better chance of actually seeing you, thats what i read in superbike mag anyway.
RK thats what I like to hear RK a man that gives in to us women.
I would use the MR. Sheen as I passed you so you would sparkle into the horizon. ( I wouldnt touch your bike with it though)
3/4 to white line check
to left on right handers
to right on left handers
then nail the bardon the straight bits
allways hang back when passing junctions to be more visable
and make eye contact when possible ( esecialy if she pritty ) lol
that bit never works
allways look into the bend u go where u look basicaly
and skid back tire now and then when its wet to see how much grip i've got
i dont agree with riding to the law all the time as its when i've done that ive had me crashes
this has kept me safe for 23 yrs touch wood still will
there HAPPY BIKING
I usually ride 2/3 out ... its what Mr_P kept on at me about when I was out learning with him... be as wide as you can so you can be seen.
Last week whilst on a lesson I was 'advised' that I needed to be a little further out than I was as I had drifted in towards the kerb a little.
So yeah strange one Ian
I ride where I am most visible AND where I have most visibility. I have done escort bike duty with the MOD in my time and that was all about being seen and being dominant. I prefer to be dominated lol
Best thing to do is to ride where YOU feel more comfortable and ride and YOUR pace. Some very experianced test/track riders I know are shocking on the road, right up cars bumpers, overtake anywhere etc. I'm slower on my bike than I am in my car!
Your right Ghosty, when you do a lot of track riding you get used to tucking in close behind people and allways going for it if theres a gap, it can be a habit that hard to brake.
Still very much a learner and not been out on my own yet but I've been advised by a few more experienced bikers to place the bike as if I was a driver in a car - that way I'd be more likely to be in the eyeline of a vehicle behind me - and to move in to the left a bit to allow them to pass if I was going too slow.

Like most i ride to the right of centre. If i'm in a group then i take up my position in the stagger. If behind a vehicle then It's so i can see there mirrors. With a truck thats a long way back as well and always check the number in case it's LH drive.
There are some good pointers on this thread for peeps who need a bit of advice as were to be on the road if they didn't already know
All i can add is that i make sure i can see the drivers face through one of his or her mirrors, i always look for an exit point when following another vehicle either left or right, stay far enough back so you can stop and get past into clear road as soon as i can.
When I took my test back in the late 80's I was told/taught to ride about 3 feet from the kerb (that's the correct spelling HG), which must have been right coz I passed my test doing just that, but that was back in the days when the tester followed you around on foot.
Nowadays I position myself close to the centre line and following cars I make sure that I can always see the wing mirror and the drivers refection of the car in front and on open roads I move about to give myself the best view ahead possible,
