I've been on Biker Match for over a year and only post when I have something I consider to be worth saying, generally preferring to discuss the more serious subjects. Hence my relatively limited number of posts. However, if people want to start and contribute to trivial threads they should be free to do so - especially when they're as popular as they appear to be. I have never used the Chat Room since I feel uncomfortable with chat rooms although I may be open to persuasion.
My main concerns with Biker Match are the number of bells and whistles being added to it and the increasing need for users to get a degree in computer science in order to use them. I have a perfectly good e-mail address and don't want ananother, particularly if they're linked to a subscription site. I don't like being told what browser or even what computer I should use. And I don't like being told I shouldn't hate Microsoft because someone who doesn't know what they're talking about told me I should hate them - my antipathy towards them came all on its own. Apparently it did to the US Senate as well when then invoked Anti-Trust legislation against them.
So, while we have had enjoyed some improvements like larger photographs and clearer text in the forums, which I do appreciate, how about making it more user friendly for people who aren't into computers as an entity in themselves and for those who use operating systems and browsers not from Microsoft?
My comments in the other thread weren't aimed at you! I just have loads of friends (And family) who use Firefox for the sole reason that it's 'safer', which it's not. And as a developer I get very frustrated with Firefox not following the same standards that the other browsers do. So basically BikerMatch doesn't even look right, nor can I get the events tagging to work right in Firefox. So there IS logic behind me asking people to use IE where possible, and especially don't change to Firefox because the French or German governments tell you to (Following a problem reported i the ancient IE6 which has nothing to do with IE7 and IE8 that most people use now). I'm sick of these governments and 'specialists' suggesting people move away from Microsoft for no reason. Microsoft have done LOTS for society and i truely believe that if it wasn't for MS then we wouldn't be anywhere near as developed as we currently are with computers (And BM wouldn't exist without MS either!)
And the website works as it's supposed to, just Firefox doesn't like to display tables and colours as it should (Take a look next time you've got a workstation with both installed! Firefox looks like junk, and it's NOT my fault!).
And services like email... well don't use what you don't want to use. Some people want one though, like if facebook started offering email many people would want an address. I'm also hoping it will keep people interested in subscribing if they're getting more for their money, considering December was our worst month for subs in over 2 years!
I've got to be seen as doing something or the site stagnates and people drift away. There are similar sites offering more and more services, and often for free, so unless you want BM to fall behind and die then I've got to do something - and that's the bells and whistles that you're complaining about.
PS: Didn't i recently spend a lot of time and effort making the site work for Macs, Firefox (as much as possible), Chrome, Mobiles and other browsers/OS's????
PPS: (This could go on for a while), please tell me one thing that's not easy to use! Chimps could use BM as far as I'm concerned, because I make every effort to make it as simple as possible. Big, clear, obvious functions. If there's something not so obvious, please tell me and I'll fix it right away. But please make suggestions rather than complaints, be specific about what you want fixing and how you think it could be better implemented.
