Depends on how I'm riding. 70/75mph steady on the motorway (when I'm working) and the CB probably manages 50mpg. Normal riding is around 40ish and "making progress" is probably around the 35mpg mark.
Big improvement on my old VTR though lol. That used to do about 35/40 ridden steady dropping to about 18mpg around Mallory Park lol!
Probably an average of about 45mpg for the CBR600F (03). The reserve light has come on at anything from 115 miles to 160 miles but it's usually around 135 now.
It's meant to be an 18 litre tank but I usually put in about 13.5 to 14.5 litres and that's taken me around 150 miles.
I used to get more mpg when I first had it, when I was riding it steadier. Not sure what effect derestriction will have either. It's meant to do an average of 40mpg.
Fairly big spead on mine .. .. low 20s to high 30s.
Keeping steady below 3000 revs I've had 38.. 85/90 mph @ 3500-3600 revs .. where its happiest, around 33. 4000 revs it starts to drink a bit & above 5000 it like a tap running, Although at 5000 revs its doing 125 mph so I reckon its entitled to like a drink......
Hi Dunans cheers for the welcome back, (that high MPG was towing the trailer down to Bristol to pick up my other engine lol) natural speed restriction to 60mph max whilst towing all motorways did it! Lot to be said about that lol.
Contradictorily, the lowest consumption gently cruising on the motorway I've had in the car was around 40mpg and that was with the trailer and two bikes on it lol!
Normally under the same conditions, 70-75ish, cruise control etc it'll manage mid to high 50s. Compared with low 30s with the cruise control set to 125 lol!! .. ahem, on the german autobahn of course.
(Hold up, never taken this car to Europe yet ... busted lol)
Wonder what the big 'ol CB would do towing a trailer?? ... Nahhh lol!
I got a ZZR1100 C1 2 months ago with 21k on the clock, it use to do about 35-38 mpg at different speeds, more revs the thirstier it got, its had 2 oil changes, after 6k and having 27k on the clock. Yes i did do 6k in 2 months, genuine miles .
Just done a trip between 70 and 80mph and i got a 45mpg, looks like it starting to run now, just need to remeber to change the oil every month and it should get better.
Hi, the best i've had out of of beemer is 50mpg, thats on a run at about 80 to 85. But i've had it as low as 30 with HFG egging me on :-). But the best bike i've had for fuel was a Buell XB1200R Firebolt, used to give me 60mpg on a run loaded up. Lots of torque from that low reving v twin.
I can get my old zzr600 to do about 60mpg on a steady run. normal commute and messin around is 35 to 40 mpg.
The real beauty of the bike over the cars mpg figures is that you don't sit idling burning fuel in traffic jams.
We is free to move kids.....
Years ago my old XJ900 Diversion would easily do between 45-55mpg which wasn't bad considering that was fitted with a full Givi luggage set and was a heavy solid shaft drive bike.
Sprint ST955i anywhere between 35-45 mpg.... it did actually drop to more or less sod all at one point.... lost a whole tank of petrol down the M1 just outside London.... perished fuel line from the tank!!!
Bandit 600 38-45 MPG and that was at "motorway" speeds shall we say and a very modified stumpy exhaust ;-)
CBR600 F3 (current bike) seems to be returning around the 45mpg... thats also with a stumpy exhaust too and I think the previous owner has had it tinkered with because at certain points in the rev range it's like I'm on a little rocket!
violetinferno and anyone else that doesn't know how to work it out....
4.546 litres = 1 UK gallon.
When you fill up your tank (to the top) trip the milage.... then when you next fill your tank up again to the top make a note of how many miles you've covered between fill ups and the number of litres you filled up with.
Divide the number of miles by the number of litres of fuel. That will give you your miles per litre (MPL)
Multiply the MPL by 4.546 and it will give you your miles per gallon (MPG)
Eg.
153 Miles covered
Filled up with 16.55 litres of fuel
153/16.55 = ~9.24 (MPL)
9.24 (MPL) x 4.546 = ~42.03 which is your MPG
Yep.... it may appear to be a sad thing to do calculating such things to some people but with a previous job I used to do a 200 mile round trip daily commute and trust me with clocking that much milage up every day it paid to do the sums!!! If the MPG dropped too much then it was usually a sign of something wrong or I was riding the bike hard.
I do have a pretty good spreadsheet that I set up that I used to use.... it calculates everything for you!!!! It even does a rolling 12 month summary for you!!!!
Anyone wants a copy just send me a PM and let me know which version of MS Excel you use.
:-)
Bandit 1200 50mpg on my own, down to 41mpg with a pillion and that's when i'm cracking on a bit , drops to mid 30's if riding in 3 figures which of coarse i never do . Never calculated it at steady riding pace , not very often that i ride steady pace , the demons come out when i take the bike out.
reckond 39 on the run back from stormin, wasnt far travelled under 70 like, big thirsty cylinders when needing to get somewhere,40+ usually but end of the day its the big smile it gives you
