Someone who abducts a young child from a shopping centre, takes them down to a railway cutting, strips them naked, beats them with an iron bar and bricks, pours blue enamel paint in their eyes, pushes batteries up their anus, beats them further until they are dead, then leaves the body on a railway line to be cut in half... THAT is pure evil.
In my humble opinion, Matthew's plan was a misguided attempt at extortion possibly playing on the back of the media frenzy over Madeline McCann. I agree with the possibility of her overdosing on the drugs but I doubt any of the parties involved would have thought that far ahead....
Apologies to LC and anyone else if they are offended by the above.... (maybe a little TOO much of a rant, just something I feel passionate about )
Mods - feel free to delete the above! I will not just in case someone is taking the time to write a reply...
Apologies again, LC - rant directed at media, not you! x
I was trying to think of a way to put it TC, but that basically covers it, the fact that Matthews did hide her daughter where in her mind she physically wouldn't get hurt IMO means she isn't evil. However she is thick, greedy, manipulative, calculating and a lier. And didn't stop to think about the mental anguish that was experienced by her daughter.
It's a fair comment LC and you've qualified your opinion :o)
TC and Scary sum up my opinion on the situation... and my rant was more about the police statement pandering to the dramatic and being somewhat irresponsible (IMO).
The word "evil" is very subjective. The gutter press can throw around such words, they increase sales by dramatising situations, but our judicial system in general (from Police, to CPS, to MoJ, to Judges etc) should be more measured, or we could run the eventual risk of trial by angry villager, queue on the left, one pitchfork each please
I'm sorry but anyone who puts themselves before their own child -or any kid really- may not be PURE evil but there's a bloody big streak of it in them, lock the bitch up,don't waste taxpayers money on feeding her & leave her to rot alongside anyone else who harms kids
You haven't offended me TC ....
Ok, you may have left me feeling inclined to go out, find someone who has done what you described or similar ........ and introduce their fingers to my pliers ... but I don't see any harm in that?
What i find worrying, is that the media can single people out and really go to town on them, for weeks sometimes, when there are other people getting away with exactly the same sick crimes, that they choose, for what ever reason, to ignore, and no, i'm not going to quote examples, but i'm sure most of you can think of examples of double standards.
i believe that anyone who knowingly inflicts harm on a child, either physically or emotionally is deemed in my eyes abhorently inhuman and yes Karen Mathews may have believed her child was "safe" however the emotional damage that her child experienced can never be underestermated and can never be undone!! i have seen first hand how children suffer everyday, in appalling conditions, and due to the nature of my job i see the damaging effects of neglect and abuse!
Our children are precious!!
We all have a role and responsibility as a society to look out, and protect all children, wether its the child down the road who you have seen get that wacking big punch accross the head for no apparent reason by a parent, to a lost child in a shopping centre!
dont ignore it... get help if you need to, seek advice just dont ignore it!
Those two boys who inflicted that horrific death upon that poor child on the railway line that TC spoke about ealier in the thread were not born that way........ something made them that way... perhaps thats the more chilling thought!!!!!
TC Did you know the same lawyer also got the same injunction for Maxine Carr as for for the two who murdered James Bulger
Thompson and Venables were released on a life licence in June 2001, after serving eight years, when a parole hearing concluded that public safety would not be threatened by their rehabilitation.[2] An injunction was imposed after the trial preventing the publication of details about the boys, for fear of reprisals. The injunction remained in force following their release, so their new identities and locations could not be published.
Forgot about this thread... I don't disagree with anything you say there DS... what I disagree with is emotive language being used in official legal statements...
An individual Police Officer can privately wish to tear someone limb from limb for harming a child, but we expect him/her to uphold and enforce the Law, not to lose control and behave like a wild thing and actually DO it...
The same applies for any official statements issued by any Police Force (oh sorry - Service - we're not allowed to call them Forces any more are we?! That's a rant for another day ;o) ) ... no matter what place on the scale of "evil" you privately and subjectively believe someone to occupy through their actions, official statements are supposed to be objective and NOT designed to whip an already angry public into more of a frenzy. That way lies mob rule...
Ultimately, the word "evil" is way too subjective and abstract a concept to be used as an official description of any criminal, as every individual has their own comprehension of "evil".
I personally dislike the word as it has too many religious connotations to be applied with any rationality... if you follow MY God/religion/sect/cult/subdivision you're great, but if you follow God B, you're "evil".
This could all be avoided if everyone would convert to Pastafarianism and the one true church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
WB do you not realise that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a false prophet and the way to salvation can ONLY be found by deep contemplation of the works of the guru Lasagne and his disciple Tagliatelle?
I understand the Pope has excommunicated the Flying Spaghetti Monster - which rather gives weight to his existence.
Personally, I am drawn to the Martian Orbiting Teapot theory.
