Right then - DC's rant for today - Wanted a lie in, woke up at 6am Went to the stables to chuck the boys out, was p**sing it down and blowing a gale, so decided against that and got drenched getting them mucked out, fed and watered Bike booked in for MOT in clitheroe. Still p**sing it down but no choice, got to get it sorted. Bike wont start! Stood in back yard effing and blinding, bike turning over fine, 5 mins later, realised hadnt put the choke on. Doh! Bike fires first time then. Rode round Clitheroe numerous times trying to find bike shop. Ended up stopping at car showroom and asking - was over the road, the worlds smallest bike shop. Arrive at shop, soaked and dripping all over place Bike passes mot without any problems at all Sun is now out, quick blast down the road and home. Have a brew, decide to go for a long ride on Guiseley. Get back to the stables, tack up, get on, get to the end of the road and wham! A howling gale comes out of nowhere and the heaviest hailstorm i've seen in a long time. Guiseley throws a wobbly in the middle of a junction as the hail is coming down that hard it stings. Decide to head home, Guiseley insists on going at warp factor 9 with the odd sideways shuffle thrown in for good measure. Was out for a grand total of 10mins. Got back p**s wet through again! Untacked, sun now back out, so chucked Rhys out in the field. 10 mins later, another hailstorm, so now i have to run back to the field and rescue him cos he's going radio rental. Grab him and run back to the stable...soaked again So i came home and guess what? The sun is out and it hasnt rained/hailed since..........GRRRRRRRRRR

Are there any rules/regulations/tests before a rider can take a horse onto the public highway? NB - not a dig or leg-pull or owt, just curious.

No XK there aren't and in my opinion there should be, and I agree with Julie, everyone that owns a horse should have at least public liability insurance. Normally Guiseley is very well behaved on the roads, but given the conditions out there today, i dont blame him for chucking his teddies. Thankfully i know him very well and even when he appears out of control, he rarely is. But, they are living creatures with minds of their own at the end of the day, and when in that state of mind, there is nothing i nor anyone else can do about it. Riders and motorists should bear that in mind

always give them a very wide berth, we get lots of horses around here and it amuses me that they always have a good look at the bike! i was behind a car with a dog in the back and the window open the otherday, i made some `doggy noises` at him whilst stopped in the traffic and he hearly jumped out of his skin!

Whilst we're on the subject of horses and ranting...here's a scenario for you all to ponder.... Two horses on the road, both black, one large with a rider, the other being lead on the inside of the big one. Both horses have fluorescent rugs on their rear ends(like police horses), both have fluorescent bands on their legs, the rider has a fluorescent jacket on with 'Caution, young horse in training' written on the back.... What would you think????? Answers on a postcard please

have seen the young horse in training and my 1st thought is that it takes a brave soul to go out on the roads with an untrained horse, you must really have to know what you are doing, i have seen some very experienced horse riders out and about, they mostly seem highly competent, even teenagers, we get pony and trap training on the stray(open parkland) here, i love to watch them all

Sorry should have clarified - what would you think if you were in/on a vehicle?

obvious really, just slow right down and give plenty of space, when that happens here tend to hang back till the rider waves me on dont know what the highway code says

and horse riders are sat so high up they must have a fantastic view of the road ahead

anything could happen with that scenario even a gust o wind can frighten a horse!,i alway's throttle back as me loud pipes mayscare it!i get annoyed when behind a horse waiting for a clear wide space to overtake an some impatient twats will just overtake all of us even on corner's !!ive been on a horse scared by traffic!! high ho silver away!!!
