as usual, the arguments from the smokers are absolute nonsense.
I mean - what the hell is a non-smoking pub? They never existed! I've never known a special pub for non-smokers in my life. And what should I do - go sit on my own whilst everyone goes to the usual places?
I don't CHOOSE to go to your precious smoking rooms, I just have no choice if I want a social life. It's that, or stay home alone.
Now smoking is banned, it's best for everyone (Inc. smokers, many of whom have taken the ban as an opportunity to quit smoking!).
And it's not the UK being a nanny state, the whole of europe are banning smoking. Most EU countries were well before the UK. I'm sure these countries are making educated decisions, and have rattled through all these pointless arguments already. And it was the non-smokers who won, cos we're right!
