Jeez a bit of snow and the country grinds to a very quick stop. Who grits the roads for the gritter driver? No-one is the answer.

Ric - just drive your lorry in reverse... Not wanting to put Ric out of a job but I reckon every vehicle should have those rotating chain-thingies that fire engines have fitted underneath... (sort of like a spinning clothes line with chain flails - pretty cool piece of kit!). I am sure the Govt will subsidise retrofitment... I use snow clamps - nothing keeps me away from a decent day on the slopes!!

TC,got to get to it first!! Fitting snow thingies to the underside of your car is ok till it churns up the road. Then more tarmacing will need to be done. Which means more tarmac down the drains which then means more work for me. Haha. Its really quite simple, they should phone up places like Canada and Switzerland and ask them how they cope.

Just out of interest, Ric - when you drive to work for the first gritting shift of the day, are you covered on the companies insurance for your private vehicle?

Yes, some of us are still at work, because when it snows on us the country doesn't grind to a halt and we don't suddenly forget how to ride, though it pleases others to forget even the basics of driving. So that'll be me heading home around 6pm, in the dark and the cold, to go skating along all the roads that the council can't be arsed to grit.
