im replacing the calendar tonight with a new script, i dont like the current one (And i refuse to make one, cos its a LOT of code to make a calendar).
plus.net are a good ISP... very fast and with lots of freebie extras. Their email support is fantastic too. Little pricey tho for the connections, but good speed and mine was unlimited.
Still can't be happier than I am now in Holland.... 100 mbps upload and download speeds!
When I first went with Nildram I was well impressed - excellent phone support with real people at the end of the line who actually KNOW what they're talking about, rather than the "Have you switched it off and back on again?" script!
They're not cheap - reliability's always been more important to me... especially now with planning to try a net-based "shopfront"... In the short time since they've been taken over by TalkTalk, I've experienced more problems than in the past 4 years put together, so I'm now paying a premium rate for a far from premium service.
I steer clear of all the mega-deals, as you know that millions of folk sign up for them and they can never cope with the additional demand until they get the cash flowing and upgrade their service! It's tempting, considering my current financial state, but I'm looking to the longer term, rather than the immediate "oh crap! How am I going to cope?" stuff
P.S. I haven't noticed others have problems with the calendar, so I kind of assumed it was probably because I'm working from a Mac via Firefox... It's that long since I used Safari to try an event, I can't remember if I had problems with it or not.
So long as the dates work, the timings can always be included in the description or accompanying forum thread

I'm 100% with you on this Wannabe. I love my Macs and detest PCs. I have to use a PC for work and I hate it. My first computer was a PC and it was nothing but trouble. The obsolescent Mac (Performa 400) which I moved on to was a revelation and I would never consider going back to a PC. I'm not keen of Microsoft software either although Office has improved in the last five years. In the interim, I'll stick to my i-mac Intel, i-book, Firefox browser and Mac Mail.
So a bit less prejudice against Macs please!! Besides, an Apple a day keeps the virus away.
its impossible to make software work for Macs tho, even basic websites and basic functionality doesn't work right on Macs. They should come with a huge warning for all those interested in buying with, informing the unaware that they are incompatible with 90% of software and 50% of websites.
And the old Windows products were the problem, not PCs in general. The latest ones (Such as Vista) are fantastic. My PCs are so stable and rapid.
I don't detest pc's myself - far from it... I just prefer a machine to be functional as soon as I switch it on and to remain so throughout the day! I've lost way too many man-hours over the years, sitting there, fiddling around getting pc's to do what they're supposed to do, instead of doing the work I want to do.
As you say though, it's usually Windows that's the problem, as opposed to pc's in and of themselves. Good to hear that they're improving their act at last!
My choice to switch to Mac was purely born out of frustration with Windows/pc's - the downtime, the virus risks, the lack of speed, plus having had 5 pc's/lappies die on me: (1) MSN virus (2) hard drive go bang (technical term) (3) 1 just lost the will to live I think (4) power pack died & seemed to take the rest with it & (5) possibly due to an ex surfing WAY too much porn, although that was never actually proven to be the cause!
Despite the occasional lack of compatibility or functionality on some websites, there's usually a fairly simple alternative solution.
e.g. Parts of BM won't work with Mac/Safari, but function fine with Mac/Firefox. Other sites are much the same. I've found that ebay's auction pages go a bit squiffy if you input any html code from a Mac (via Safari or Firefox) to get your auctions to look more professional, but if you pop over to Auctiva, everything works fine... and costs less, as you can schedule start times, use fancy layouts and add up to 24 photos at no cost, thus bypassing silly ebay fees
So it's not usually too much of a hardship to find a solution and websites are improving their Mac compatibility all the time

ok so all the problems u just listed (hard drives, power supplies, viruses etc) are exactly the same with Macs! A hard drive will always fail eventually, PC or mac.
And thanks for listing all the different browsers you have to use JUST TO GET BASIC WEBSITES WORKING!
But hey, I don't have that problem with a PC... cos internet explorer works perfectly for all websites! Oooooh the time i save not have to switch between dozens off different internet browsers just to post some basic html to ebay. Get my point?
I only switch between 2 browsers = Safari or Firefox - can't get IE for Macs any more, unless you want to work with IE Version StoneAge.1
The hard drive fail I had was in a 6 month old pc - unimpressive to say the least! And yes, there are Mac viruses, but a tiny fraction of those encountered by Windows/pc users - suits me fine.
I switch on, the desktop fires up and I'm ready to roll... When I used to use a pc, I'd switch on, go put the kettle on, come back to see how far it had progressed, wander back to the kitchen, make a cuppa... & even after the desktop's sitting there visible, you still can't do anything cos you just get the little egg timer symbol that makes you want to scream
In 3 years of using Macs, they've never "hung" on me, I've never had to resort to ye olde "Ctrl/Alt/Delete", never spent 2 hours on the line to some IT blokey giving me DOS commands to try and get the blessed thing working again - I can put up with switching between a couple of browsers for web purposes
I'm not anti-pc - I just love me Mac lots! In an ideal world, I'd have both, because there are certain applications for which the Mac absolutely rocks and likewise with PCs. But at the mo, I only have 2 laptops in pieces... I doubt whether I'll be able to salvage 1 working outfit between the pair of them though...
a 6 month old dead HDD is just a cheap drive. U get exactly the same ones in macs, no difference. It's like saying u had bridgestone tyres on your ford and they popped, so ur not gonna buy a ford again!
Re all the hanging... that was a long time ago! My Windows system (Vista 64) on my main PC hasn't crashed in years and its SO stable. Its never even stuttered. My Windows servers have never failed and crashed either :-)
Hehehe! No, I do appreciate that hardware's the same all over & that I was just *really* unlucky with that one, lasting so little time... It was just one of the many pc deaths I've had during the past 10-12 years...
The main reasons for choosing a Mac are about wanting a system which works and doesn't constantly crash/hang on me... I've spent way too many days unable to get any work done during office hours and having to stay late at night due to PC downtime because of one hiccup or another. I like a tool to do what it's supposed to do, not to spend hours tinkering about with it just to get it to a position where it can do its job
My ex bought a Mac and I thought he was completely nuts... Until I started playing with it!
Granted, my PC/Windows experience is out of date... My last office job involved a tight boss who simply refused to spend any money on upgrading the system, because he hated the way it constantly failed and figured he'd be throwing good money after bad (go figure! ) Maybe if it was him who had to pull the late nights to get the work done due to downtime during office hours, he might have reconsidered? At least towards the end I was mostly alone in the office, so could flit between 4 different work stations whenever any of them played up
Like I say - I like a tool to do what it's supposed to and both PCs and Macs have their strengths and weaknesses for different applications... I happen to like both for different tasks, but if I can only have 1, as at the moment, then I choose the Mac.
question... when using you mac on the registration page, do you get a "Password Strength" bar next to the password box as you type?
Also... on the Browse page, under Find Username, do you get the top 10 suggestions when you start typing?
Another.... does the chatroom work at all?
