Getting into biking has changed my life and this site had a huge part to play in that.
I just wanted to carry on being a pillion when I joined, now I ride my own bike and love love love it. Plus I found a stray frog
Just to get back on track, I would say that this site has made a considerable difference to my life but it was also necessary for me to change my lifestyle to do so. For some years I worked from home for a riders' rights organisation which left me somewhat isolated except for going to meetings, conferences and helping to staff stands at local and national shows. The work became something of an obsession and attempts to meet anyone through dating agencies was disastrous since with all the people sent my way who had no interest in motorcycling, it was always my motorcycling that got in the way of things going further. I have always been able to give presentations and talks to large audiences and once even gave oral evidence at a House of Commons Select Committee - on motorcycling issues of course. However, one to one was always much more difficult for me and, with a background of a failed marriage from the 1980s, relationships that didn't last followed by nothing for several years, I was getting pretty cynical about relationships.
Anyway, since my job was starting to get to me, I quit and settled for something not so well paid or interesting but with regular hours and that got me out of the house. I signed up to Biker Match after seeing an ad in Bike (so the advertising isn't a complete waste of money, Matt) and later paid up as a subscribed member. It wasn't long before I started exchanging messages with Moonstone which led to our meeting last October. We're still together in spite of the 98 miles between us. She has brought me into her family while I have been able to support her in building up her confidence to ride her own bike.
I have also met some friends through the forums and some of the events which I have attended although I still don't feel comfortable about using the chat room yet. Debate tends to remain civilised unlike some other sites and one-make club forums I could name. I intend to continue to use BM to socialise in spite of having met someone special through it.
So I think you can conclude that BM has certainly changed my life and for the better.
The frog is indeed a very lucky frog.
I too am thankful to this site for all the mates that it's introduced me too. Many of these are mates that I hope will be lifelong, totally trustworthy mates, some others so so!
And yes, I have also found someone who I'd like to spend all my days with. Luv ya Rach!
Catta , i also connected with BM while bike hunting , so yes Matt is on a winner with his ads , i joined BM in the hope of meeting new friends before leaving Cape Town in SA , where i belonged to a quite large biking community whom still contact me via "skype" on a weekly basis ....due to BM i have made a couple of true friends in England and met a lot of folks that were friendly towards me and my wife and i hope to build on that once i'm mobile enough to attend more rides and gatherings and really get involved in the biking scene....i don't like generalizing but i must say this , bikers are the most friendly helpful people you could wish to meet worldwide in my experience ! and to the special few who chat with me on Bikermatch..thank you very much Exc
