I'm getting a bit pissed off with being treated like a leper cos I like a smoke. I am fully aware that it isnt good for me but surely it's my choice? I am also fully aware that non smokers would like to go into pubs and not breath my smoke but do ALL pubs have to be non smoking?? It's funny that in my local, most people smoke including the staff and quite often the place is empty cos everyone is outside having a smoke!
I dont buy this burden on the taxpayer stuff either...I happen to be a taxpayer as well and pay quite a considerable amount of tax on my tobacco.I wonder if non drivers complain about treating victims of road traffic accidents in the same way??
I didn't give up because of the ban or pressure from anyone I just had enough.
I don't mind people smoking around me and totaly disagree with the smoking ban in pubs, just another example of the government micro managing our lives.
Each to their own.... I got nothing against smoking.
i hear there on about amending the smoking ban to allow smoking rooms in pubs i just wish they'd stop talking about it and get cracking. A few months back i was in a pub and we had a lock-in it was great because the landlord brought out the ashtrays and let every one light up
I heard on our local radio that non smokers were complaining about smokers smoking in the beer garden. I say tough,if you don't like it go indoors and stop your whinging.
I agree with littlechick about taxpayers money be being used.
A friend of mine works with brain damaged people, the occasional one very unfortunately caused through a motorcycle injury. Shall we give them up as well?
I have a 'Deidre Barlow' type voice... but I have always had it, even when I didn't smoke...works great when I sing, and I would rather hear a lower pitched female voice than a Rosie Webster squeek any day!
I was living in Spain when the smoking ban came in over here, so my shock when I returned was immense....December, standing outside with what seemed like all of the customers, shivering and smoking! Nowadays, I rarely go in a pub unless it's for a gig.
I agree. I know it is bad for me, I appreciate the health risks but I also hate people who get falling over drunk and abusive, yet we don't send them outside often enough do we?
Hi all, well im with Seb on this one 43 years for me never tried one ........grew up in a house where my dad smoked 20 / 30 Capsten Full Strenth a day....bloody awfull...When he couldnt buy them anymore he switched to Bensons and went up to 50 + a day "cant taste these am eating em "...when my mam got cancer He quit bought his own patches and ate a shed load of mint imperials .
I for one never thought he could give them up , but he s been smoke free for 15 years now but still says he could murder one now and again .
You have got to want to do it for YOU ..........but its still bloody hard to quit ........to all that are trying
But like all things in life it is a personal choice so those of you that enjoy a cig you should have the choice to do so ......
Yes!! I did.
I gave up smoking many yrs ago but after 5 weeks was smoking again and that's cos I didn't really want to give up and that's the key to it really, smokers will start smoking again if they didn't really want to give up in the first place.
I quit smoking almost 2 yrs ago (October 2007) and it wasn't difficult at all. I had run out of tobacco and had no money to buy more, I had longed to be free of the addiction, and the stigma of being a smoker, I may as well have had leprosy, and this was my chance so I took it. I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms at all but I have had all sorts of ailments since. *sigh*
Now I can't stand the smell of smoke and someone who has just had a fag absolutely stinks awful, but they always did even when I smoked, so why I didn't realise I must have stunk too I don't know. It's not just the person who smells it's everything, it took me ages to get rid of the stink from my belongings, in my home, books/paper are the worst.
I disagree with a total ban on the grounds of passive smoking cos passive smoking has not been scientifically proven to cause death.
Now instead of public buildings stinking the doorways stink and we have to walk past or through it to get to where we want to be. Yuck!
Considerate smokers shouldn't be treated the same as inconsiderate smokers, by considerate I mean those who don't smoke where they're not meant to, don't smoke while someone nearby is eating, don't blow smoke in others faces etc simple really, just think about others, it may not kill me but it makes me feel sick to smell it. Wacky backy is even worse, my neighbours smoke it and I have to go inside to escape the smell.
I dislike it when folk mention TAX PAYERS cos smokers pay enough tax on their purchases to cover it I think. Plus a lot of smokers pay income tax, motorbike/car tax, etc just like the anti-smokers.
I've mastered the quit smoking thing now all I gotta do is find the willpower to stop eating the fattening stuff lol yea yea whatever!
Next I'll be hearing comments about fat bitches taking up more than one seat on the bus lol
BTW I have a light voice so not all smokers sound like Ann Kirkbride. Now she is an irritating smoker cos she was worried sick about her test for cancer but refuses to stop smoking! Can't have it both ways.
Good luck to those who try to quit smoking but remember if you don't really want to then it won't work anyway.
Sandi
Why thank you kind Sir, it's not often said of me that, 'diplomatic' in fact NEVER lol
BTW I forgot to mention I smoked 30 a day for 30 yrs when I quit. No patches or pills I just quit.
