cw I've done the calculation on that one!!! each lantern can lift a weight of 50grammes, Then taking into account the weight of new slimline version of BJ, at say nine stone ish. so the following calculation will give us an answer to that question :-)
(9 x 14lbs) -------------- = 57.272 kilo 2.2 -------------- = 1145 + 10% correction factor 0.05kg (ie 50g)
Equals 1259 chinese laterns

Hey CYTM i'm sure we can modify the calculation. I'm sure there was a shop in Barmouth that sold rockets and stuff like that do you thng a couple rockets will help with the take off

Chris i've done some research on the net. And there is an advantage to using a solid fuel booster rocket, ie firework, compared to a liquid fueled rocket. The calculation is quite complex as it involves working out the explosive force of the firework, and the drag coefficient of the object to be propelled. So i think the idea of giving BJ a nice lantern ride might be a little easier. But i do think the lady protests too much, and might be quiet looking forward to it :-)
My turn to chip in ................ this could be the only way you would be getting your KITE off the ground by holding it in your hand when the lanterns lift off.
