Quick spin on my recently acquired Moto Guzzi V11 (always wanted a Guzzzi), up the Cat and Fiddle. Flying up the climbs swooping round the bends, marvelling at the torque, grinning at the handling and impressed by the brakes. Having such a good time thinking "I'm going to like this bike" and carrying on past "The Cat" and not stopping for the planned brew. Did I mention the brakes?. Bit further on, by the lovely average speed cameras, just where the road that takes you down to Bosley crossroads, meets the Cat & Fiddle, the bike slowed to a standstill, as if someone had hitched an HGV trailer to it. "Funny" I thought, engine revs ok, then I saw the blue smoke. Hopped off and there were actually flames near the caliper and, the disc was smoking. Just as I was imagining the rear end going up in flames and remembering the fuel tank is "resin", I think. The kindly wind extinguished the budding firestorm. A little piece of half melted plastic with the proud moniker "Brembo" on it hit the deck and I spent the next 15 mins on my hands and knees inspecting. Thanks to the fella on the Aprillia Tuono and his missus on the back, who actually saw my predicament, slowed down, waved and then rode on, (hope he wasn't a BMer). When all had cooled down I discovered the bike would move although the back brake was now cosmetic and, after stopping to make sure there was no mortal danger, a few times, I got down off the Cat, courtesy of the awesome front brakes and engine braking and limped home. At home, I lifted the cover off my trusty, loyal, reliable Honda CBF600, gave it a "peck" on the flyscreen and said "I'm sorry and so glad I didn't have to sell you, I love you mate".
I took the cover offf her and patted her - then put the cover back cos it's raining !! Maybe I am turning into a 'fair weather' biker ! But - ya know - it sits alright with me
Had a nice ride out from St.ives to Southampton excellent weather, up here for the week working, down to Paignton on Sat and Bristol. On Sunday to meet up with Silva.
Fitted bar end mirror I got from Classic bike show yesterday to the Triumph and some handguards on the Honda.
Unfortunately, even with lots opf adjustments with the hacksaw, couldn't get the bike stand I bought to be low enough to get under the frame of the Honda. I guess it only works with moto-x bikes and not the trailie. Didn't realise there was such a major difference in ground clearance.
