I was just consulting the AA route planner to get various mileages to Avebury, with the thought of suggesting a meet there sometime. It's well over a year since I've been there and I love it :o)
Anyway... I got as far afield as looking up Nottingham to Avebury and the AA announced this:
"No route can be found because one of your selected locations is not accessible by vehicle. Please check and enter again, using the search tips if necessary."
Methinks the residents of Nottingham may beg to differ! ;o)
Anyhoooooo... It's about:
134 miles from Newton Abbott 84 miles from Weymouth 132 from Dartford 65 from Weston 41 from Bristol 96 from Solihull
Worth a shot? Might attract some SE, S, SW and Midlands folk?
Easily found meeting point at the Red Lion in the centre of the village.
Does get pretty rammed in the Summer though, especially if you catch it on a day when folk are skipping around the stones gettin' hitched and suchlike ;o)
And I certainly wouldn't recommend it for Summer Solstice... ye gads!
So when were you thinking Wannabe Winter Solstice or is it overrun with druids then as well.
Dont think I have ever been but mat have passed through and not noticed
Hey that's not a bad idea Mick... Never been along at winter solstice and I suspect it'd be pretty busy then too, but it'd be good to have a wee pre-Xmas get together eh?
You lot on bikes will be OK anyway... I'll have to get down there for about 7am if I hope to park the Ka anywhere!
21st this year Mick... I'll stick up a discussion and see if anyone's interested... meanwhile, will see if my ex is still in touch with the antique shop peeps - they'll know if it gets overcrowded.
Alternatively... there's the Burning The Clocks parade in Brighton - that's usually a craic... think the parade starts about 6pm - done & dusted about 8ish.
