...and for those who want to know what the locals know / find the best biking routes (according to the blurb on the website)
http://www.bestbikingroads.com/
just checked ferry and tunnel prices, but this price is obviously dependent on time and route. dover-calais £45 return (with P&O) and tunnel is £98 return.
is it dover calais we need matt, or are we starting somewhere else?
kwak, its a good job you do have this knowledge, its helped me out loads, thanks again
if everyone wants to gather at my house, get ferry from harwich to hook of holland. Then ride down to my place from there and we can all catch up and make sure everyone is kitted out etc. Can all stop at mine for one night too, as some people may be coming from top of the UK and wont wanna be riding 400+ miles in a day.
My place is a good first stop on the continent and a breather for those travelling far accross the UK
right, its £111.74. there are only two ferries a day, and we will need to take the 9am one as it is a long crossing and we will not arrive until 1615. the other alternative is to take the ferry the night before then you have to book a cabin, so with a standard 1 berth inside cabin it will be £136.03.
I realise some people (including me and skins) will be travelling as a couple and will book a 2 berth, but we would need to ring for a price on that, as we are taking 2 bikes. anyway, it's just a rough guide for idea.
Not sure if you can use them for this ferry but it may be worth checking out to see if you can use Tesco Clubcard Tokens as I know using them to take my bike to Ireland cost me £20 in clubcard tokens for my £80 ferry ticket, when I took the bike to the IOW my ferry ticket only cost me £7.50 in Tokens for my £30 ferry crossing, each £2.50 is worth £10
So if you can it maybe worth even doing as much shopping as you can at Tesco or even getting a Tesco visa card and get saving. I know several of the people I went to the IOW with did this once I had told them about it.
NB: Route and destinations to be confirmed. This is not a fast tour, but bikes must be capable of keeping up. All bikes must be fully serviced before setting off at the very least. Please don't turn up on an RD250 from 1980. This is a 2000 mile trip, if we don't get lost lol, so all bikes must be fully capable of doing this without any issues
(Watch it be my bike that breaks now lol)
hah im sure it will be fine.
Im on 18.5k now, and expect to be on around 26k+ by September.
Just don't want anybody struggling to climb the alps etc, or wherever we end up on the bikes. There will be some tough roads and the bigger bigs are gonna be able to handle them better
