Welcome Old Red, you'll be taught that sort of stuff by your instructor anyway.
Rear brake thing is a paticularly good habit to get into though, and stay into as well!
I'ts saved my bacon on more than one occasion:o)
i think we would both benefit from Phil,s offer of a relaxed ride-out..any-one else?
*checks the AA*
Hmmmmm... Non-motorway route from mine to Liverpool... 6 hours 19 minutes! Mebbes I'll just wait til I'm fully licensed, eh? ;o)
In the words of my CBT blokey, when I realised that even on a pushbike I always set off left foot first & have my right foot on the ground, "What? You put your right foot down?" *nods* "Well DON'T!" ;o)
thanks again that is some handy advice seem like i have enough reasons to go out right now and practise, not that i need a reasons to go out on a ride. but i will have to nip this bad habit of with my right leg before i do my test.
ahh before i forget yeah Old red once we have both passed fingers crossed we both do mate yeah lets hit pagan up for a ride out, and get anyone else who wishies to join in the fun. but it going to have to be in the new year for me as even once i have passed i still got a bit more restoration work to be done on my yamaha.
No Prob Blitz. just PM me and anrrange a run out. Yo do know i wear a hi vis jacket lol. you would be surprised how many people don't want to be seen arround me lol. see profile pic
one thing that hasnt been mentioned, although coming from me is probably not a good idea as i dont go much slower in the wet. but on bends i lean myself more and make an effort to keep the bike more upright. Not suggesting to the extent of Rossi but hang off more to give the tyres more traction. Nearer the centreline of the tread the better. Glad i havent got to take my test. Right foot down and i fall off.
The right foot on the brake rule has always amused me.
It always reminded me of Batfink and his shields of steel!!
There you are sat at the traffic lights, when you are rammed from behind by a van doing 40mph ......
"You can't move me for I am holding my back brake!!!!"
Ooooooh noooooooo!
Now I'm lost in a YouTube loop again!

I agree wiv Wannabe..it shud be sticky !
OR
can we have a 'Learner/Newbie Biker' forum... or sumfin ..?!
still would like to hear about riding with a pillion as opposed to being the pillion! should i be practicing with a couple of sacks of spuds before being let loose with a real human bean? is it better to start with a little un then work me way up? what are peeps thoughts on this one?
Get some serious miles under your belt Julie unless you are only going short trips, I'd say you need the miles under your belt so you can say to the pillion what you need them to do or don't do as it's not allways THAT obvious to what they are doing on the back to upset your handling, even someone looking around can seriously upset the handeling especially on a light bike with a light rider on the front.
cheers HR will bear that in mind as i am still a bit wobbly, have got more training booked for next wk cos there`s always more to learn, karey, im saving the lid for when i graduate to the giant turnip!
As HR sais Julie, getting plenty of miles and experience is what it's all about.
Then when you do feel ready to take a pillion, you'll naturally feel the need to compensate for the extra weight your carrying, by accelerating a bit more from a standstill etc.
Another good thing is when you're braking to a stop, be ready to plant your left foot firmly when you do, remember a pillion will just sit there, expecting you to do all the balancing on the bike for them!
watch out for ad in classifieds, wanted crash test dummy that wont answer back, could just raid marks and spencers, might need accomplices though, any volunteers ?..... one each for all the newbies, or should we take turns could just ask about amoungst the boys one of them is bound to have a spare inflatable friend under (or in ) the bed mind you that might not help with the getting used to the weight issue .really getting into this now could fill her with water and build up the amount as skill and confidence levels increase, sorted! come on boys have a root around see whatcha can find!
Hi guys, I'm a lady rider with about 40,000 miles under my belt now. What I would say about taking a pillion is to wait until you've got a decent amount of miles under your belt solo before taking a pillion. You need to gain confidence riding your bike alone and time to get used to how it handles in all weather, road and traffic conditions. You're bound to have a few questionable moments while you gain this experience and perhaps it's better to face these without the added responsibility of a pillion to consider. All in good time, there's no need to rush into carrying anybody on your rear seat and you'll have a pretty good idea when your ready for it.
