Bonus points for those that can guess the film;
"Some people like the merry-go-round, but that just goes round and round. I like the roller coaster because it goes up and down as well."
Round and round is good, as long as this thread doesn't go round and round too fast or else we'll all fly off!

Ah you edited it, now it makes sense
I have read this thread with interest and it has bought with it some very happy memories. I have been to many rallies and I have witnessed many RV's being initiated. All done in good humour, some, especially after a few drinks have been rather boisterous.
I have never witnessed any injury apart from maybe clothing getting soiled (including mine!).
Just as some sort of idea I thought I would share my own Rv initiation with you all.
My friends I went with were fully aware of my interest in Native Americans and their way of life. Unbeknown to me and well in advance of the rally these 'friends' planned my initiation around this theme.
The story begins..... in 1979
During the early part of the evening before the bands had started but after we had had the usual read of the rally mag., some females in my group took me to one side and told me they were playing a trick on the men. They provided me with a rather basic home made 'Blue Peter' native Indian head dress and a short fringed thow over that resembled a Hiawatha frock. They too dressed up applying make up etc. I went along thinking it was a joke on the men in our party. When going back to the marquette I was suddenly jumped on by a few male Native Americans. These burly hairy bikers had also made themselves costumes. I was soon to realise that the dressing up was in aid of my own initiaton. I was captured by the Natives bound to a gatepost close to the big marquette and these burly biker mates and their partners began doing a dance all around me. Making these so loud Indian calls which drew a huge crowd of onlookers.
To see the state of some of the outfits men with smocks down to their knees exposing hairy legs and still in bike boots was a hilarious sight. I laughed so much and couldnt get away from the post I was tethered to. I ended up sliding to the floor trying to hide the great big wet patch in the nether regions of my jeans. I never lived the moment down and hold fond memories of all my biker pals from that era. Of course I was floured and guess where the flour adhered itself to Yes my wet patch! It was soooo funny and nothing bad was meant.
I am sure that no-one on BM should be subjected to anything hurtful or cruel. All you need is a good sense of humour.
Hope I have put a few minds at rest and given you all a laff in the process.
If you dont like this sort of fun fine just dont admit to being a virgin as previously advised.
Happy rally

Lin,
That's a great story and it probably made you feel pretty honoured as obviously so many had gone to a lot of trouble for you. However that is a totally different scenario than if you re-run your story but change your friends to complete strangers! That changes fun to fear of the unknown. You regular peeps need to get it into your head that innocently admitting to being at your first rally and being subjected to what you might see as 'fun' really is putting people off going. As i've already said I can't remain anonymous after starting this thread so i'm genuinely speaking for people that have expressed concerns about being put under a spotlight!! Advising people to lie to avoid being singled out doesn't make things any easier!
As for the Masons, they have alot more to gain from joining them than we do standing in a muddy field drinking beer
the saying"ask not what they can do for me,rather what i can do
for them" was in response to the above comment Ricdude, nothing to do with rvs, more about attitude.
Ok, have just waded through this thread, and now need to go to work in a mo! This is my position...........I have never been to a rally, I don't have more than a couple of friends with bikes and so have always ridden alone. The thought of attending a rally in itself is daunting enough, turning up on my own amidst hundreds of bikers and maybe trying to find any of you guys on here is a mega terrifying thought in itself. I had never heard of RVs or any of the initiation thingys until now and I have to admit that despite everything that has been said on this thread it would indeed weigh in against my attending a rally. I know you have all tried to be reassuring, but one still can't help but wonder, if there are hundreds of peeps at a rally, the few people on here who have said nothing will happen, might not be around handy at the right time, when one has innocently mentioned thats it's one's first rally.
Ooops really gotta go to work now...................
Enough of this paranoia, if you please.
Complete strangers do not pounce on innocent RV's.
If an 'initiation' does occur at rallies, it is always done by mates on a mate.
Well said XK*...
...and dare I add, even 26 years ago, when I started rallying... "only with consent".
* and XK should know about strangers, as there's none stranger than him! *
I must agree with XL and reiterate its friends that do the pranks really and truely. I am certain if you stated you didnt want it to happen it wouldnt. Its nothing more than friendly fun. Maybe its best to agree not to do it at this 1st BM Rally? maybe we could get the organisers instead just as a demonstration to newbies how good's that lol?
I really wanna come so will try and do some juggling with my shifts at work.
