BC, firstly i think we're only joking about deducting karma for bad spelling! lol
Secondly, Karma is just a bit of fun! It's a great feature that has dramatically increased site activity. Also took me a long time to build so it would take a lot for me to drop it now.
"I do respect that not everyone has an A in english language and I find it a bit unfair at the mere thought of penalising those who have difficulty with literacy in any form whether they be dyslexic or not"
With no 'lol' anywhere here, I took it to mean you seriously thought we were going to penalise those who can't spell.
What does really wind me up is text speak. There's a reason for using it with mobile phones but with a full sized keyboard on a computer, there's no need
I agree with Catoraptor.
I find text speak more difficult to read than incorrect spelling, if you see what I mean. It was created to save money when sending text messages and to be able to get more letters/words for your money.
What is worse is when it's used in a hand written letter!
My English language teacher must be turning in her Urn lol

Well spotted Kwak. I always like to put at lease one spelling misstake in my posts simply as a means of appeering human.
Geoff, that's THREE spelling mistakes lol LEAST not lease, mistake not misstake and appearing not appeering. I see, like me, you're rubbish at mathz
Rob i shall now take the most utmost care and attention to detail whist writing on here lol
RK * i blow a raspberry in your general direction
Be grateful we dont all write with our accents i'd never understand anybody !!!
"With no 'lol' anywhere here, I took it to mean you seriously thought we were going to penalise those who can't spell."
Come on, Matt. Are we now expected to punctuate our posts with meaningless acronyms to show we're not entirely serious? That's another example of the way the English language is being bastardised and I'll be replacing my Mac with a PC before I start doing so.
I suppose I had to use an emoticon to show it's tongue in cheek.
Meaningless acronyms? How can they be meaningless when they mean something? *scratches head* (NO! I aint got nits)
Unfortunately on the 'net there aren't any accents to what we 'say' or tones etc so we need icons to let others know our meaning or to at least help identify its meaning. In the hope to save misunderstanding.
If something is over-used like "lol" is then it becomes meaningless. As I understand it, it stands for laugh out loud but is being tongue in cheek a cause for such hilarity and if used several times in one sentence, it loses any rational meaning. Maybe using emoticons makes more sense but if plain speaking (posting) offends some people then maybe that's their problem.
Be grateful we dont all write with our accents i'd never understand anybody !!!
Don't you mean no one would understand you jax ... after all that Dudley accent is a hard one
***Mr_P made me do it***
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we are not or we are bikers and motorcyclists and its chucking it down and we are bored!!!! idle fingers and thumbs and all that (chucks in a lol just in case)
Nealy don't worry about it, we can read what you type. If we can't we can always ask you. It's not a spelling contest on here so don't worry about that ok?
