Cheers BM! I have a favourite Real Ale pub in the centre of Barmouth 'The Tal Y Don Hotel' It is more a pub than a hotel. I've used this place about 10 times in the last 15 years and can't remember having a bad pint there yet. The food is good too! Not a biker pub though, but fairly down to earth.

Does the train go near the campsite in Tal Y bont from the centre of Barmouth then? If it does it would be much better (and cheaper!) on the train than by taxi. The Train from Tywyn to Barmouth (or reverse) is one of the best coastal scenic railway journeys in the UK. I think once a week a steam train makes that journey rather than the ordinary diesel engine.

Just checked the timetable and the last train from Barmouth to Talybont is at 22.10 ariving at 22.17 Previous train is at approx 18.00 so a limited service at night. In the day time it looks like they run roughly every 2 hours each way.

Good point yamahama! The only trains on Sunday seems to be campsite to Barmouth at 14.49 and Barmouth to campsite at 19.49 Bit of an early night then? May be different on a bank holiday Sunday though so there maybe no trains as you say

Absolutely not, if you're up for it no train service on a sunday night means you can enjoy a 6 mile stroll back along the railway track, over (or under in my case) chain link fences and through nettles, arriving back to your tent errr around 2 in the morning....quite a late night actually

I think Rattay is thinking of something more like brew XI in a big chunky glass. The place in question is the Ysgethin inn (ysgethin-inn.com) and does indeed have a good reputation for fine ales. It also does good food. more importantly it is less than 2 hours walk from the camp site.

at least after the 2 hour walk there's no spinning room thing when ya lay down
