Why O Why do the general public waffle on with themselves when they have a complaint!! You ring me, I sort it, no problem, but do they really have to tell me the same story 5 times and when i don't repeat myself the same 5 times they get upset!... try flippin listening in the first place!! 20 mins on the damn phone for something that is worth less than the price of the phone call... jeez..

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin...

*takes deep breath*

Poxy bleedin' Norwich Union or Aviva or whatever they like to call themselves these days.

They cocked up and continued attempting to take direct debit payments from my Nationwide account, despite me giving them new account details.

They wrote to me threatening to cancel my insurance after the payments (unsurprisingly) bounced.

I had to pay the arrears by banker's draft as they refused to accept a cheque from me and I don't have any plastic. (& more to the point, I took the bloody train into Dartford to do this and refused to drive my car for a week while I was sorting it out because I wouldn't DREAM of knowingly driving without insurance!!! )

Sent that off a fortnight ago and requested a balance figure for the remainder of the year's insurance as I'm fed up with their stupid mistakes causing me to risk being without insurance and would rather pay the whole sum owed than to continue paying monthly.

They've apparently ignored this request and cancelled my policy.

I know this only because my car's just been impounded.

Norwich Union/Aviva reckon they've written to me and now tell me I'm committing ANOTHER offence because I've failed to return their certificate!

So thanks to their incompetence, I'm now faced with a £200 fine and 6 points on my licence, plus £150 impound fee and £20 a day storage... And of course, can only collect the car once I've proven it's covered again.

Additionally... The DVLA deny I've even got a sodding driving licence!!! Ye gads! Is there no end to the bureaucratic incompetence in this country?!

I've held a driving licence for 24 years... It was good enough for my CBT last year. Yet standing in a sodding car park in Ebbsfleet today, I'm being treated as though I'm a liar and the coppers are telling me "It's time to be honest now Louise".

WTF???!!!

Anyone else want to stick the boot in? You may as well. I'm already down so I'm good for the kicking FFS.

Disclaimer: Please note that I'm not complaining about the Police doing their job here. I'm all for getting rid of uninsured drivers - I hate 'em! Even though due to circumstances beyond my control I unwittingly find myself to BE one of them!

Mind you - I did have to argue that it was impossible for me to produce an MOT certificate for the car because it's less than 3 years old... Apparently it "must" have an MOT because it's on a 56 plate. Erm... not until it's actually been REGISTERED for 3 years. Ye gads!

P.S. Why on earth did they decide to cancel my insurance policy even though I've paid everything I owe to them?

*scratches head in bewilderment*

Nothing I can do really.

OK, so I can argue the toss with the insurance company, but the Police have already impounded the car and issued me with the fixed penalty notice, so it's not really going to get me anywhere.

I can't argue that I am insured, because I'm clearly not.

I was unaware of it, but ignorance is no defence is it?

Besides, the insurance company isn't denying that I've paid. They're just saying they've cancelled the policy anyway, so tough luck.

In a way, it's good that it's happened... I'll just have to pull up my big girl's pants, take my punishment on the chin and sort it out... It could've been so much worse... I had a LONG drive yesterday and the conditions coming home were atrocious. I would never have forgiven myself had something happened.

Every cloud & all that.

It's annoying, because I'm desperately trying to get my business off the ground and wanted to sort out my website within the next fortnight, but obviously any money I manage to beg/borrow from friends & family will now have to go towards sorting this mess out.

And I've held a clean licence for 24 years

But annoying is better than ending up homeless and paying off a claim for the rest of my life!

Hey pondlife, good job your not with Swinton! They renew and take the money even when you tell them "not to"

Funny you should say that Pond... I'm off to Churchill tomorrow... cos not only will they cover me, despite having had my existing policy cancelled, they'll also accept it on a monthly basis, instead of me having to come up with 12 months' worth on top of everything else, and they'll issue the certificate for same day collection

& just so's I definitely don't get into further financial trouble, the monthly payments won't even be coming from my account

Hey nice thinking 2-Wheelie! I like the way your mind works

Cheers Blue - I guess really it's my own silly fault for not chasing them up... I'd asked them to send me the bill for the rest of the year so I could pay it all up, rather than do the monthly thing... that's not been forthcoming in the last fortnight, so I should've phoned them and hassled them for it. At least I'd have known I was uninsured then!

Lesson learned. The hard way!

it may be a tad more expensive WB but at least you have peace of mind! I'm wondering if it had anything to do with them changing the name and stuff, things get mixed up? I had a life insurance with Norwich Union some years back but cancelled it when they shut down their UK call centre and moved it to India, and i told them so as well lol my policy went up and they are making savings by sacking uk workers? I dont think so!
