as an example a guy from weymouth went motorbikin in thailand no travell insurance no helmet came off! head injuries, brain damage, parents had to remortgage house, big collection in Weymouth to get him home!bt not enought to get the parents to stop remorgagin it was horrendous so yu may think its a waste of money an youre in a european union countrie but yu gotta have it!! sorry to preach but feel it had to be said!!

i've got my E111 card, and will definitely be taking out full european breakdown cover and health insurance as well as servicing my bike and increasing my bike cover to fully comp

Something to make sure is that your breakdown will actually cover you for european cover, I thought mine did until a I checked with them before taking my bike to Ireland and they said I wasn't covered because of the age of my bike. It was a very small part in the small print not pointed out to me. When I insured my bike, they sold it me saying I had european breakdown and after all they had the registration and year of my bike when I took the cover out.

CG - i looked into this extensively when i moved to holland. Under European law, and freedom of movement, all insurance companies are required (By law!) to provide you with the basic insurance of the country that you're traveling in. So whatever insurance is required to ride in france, youll have that. Its probably just TPO but at least you're legally covered. If you want anything higher - like ur normal TPFT or FC then you'll be paying extra to your insurance (Unless you're with a good company. Most give 30 days, a few give 90 and very few - like carol nash - give you full 365 day cover). I have travel insurance for 45 squids a year - covers me all over europre.

Hi Matt what I was meaning in my post was European breakdown cover not your ordinary insurance, my ordinary bike insurance covered me just the same as in this country it was because of the age of my bike 1991 that my breakdown was invalid abroad.

oh yea sorry lol. Breakdown cover is important too. Many insurance companies give you free EU cover for breakdown too - i know carol nash do.

hi matt thinking about this trip when you say bikes must keep up what sort of pace you thinking about ? not a problem mind i ride a harley but i never ride it the traditional harley way i push it to the limit .will wait now for all the harley jokes about speed -its the ride that counts not how quick you can get from A to B plus ive done the speed thing when i was younger, when we didnt have speed cameras and gridlocked roads. so any info you can give about trip let me know. cheers.
