for the record, every deflowering i have been involved in has been at the consent of the RV, i personally would not do anything so bad that it frightened anyone else, the banter is just that...banter, i cannot comment on others initiation but if u go to ur first rally and dont want any type of initiation then simply dont tell any one its ur first, if ur mates set u up then surely they know how far to take things, if sum1 wr to protest adamantly then they would be left alone...after all this is measnt to be fun for ALL including the RV!!

It's a great theory CC, but if you've never been around bikes or bikers, you don't even *know* that there's an "initiation" involved. When someone asks you if it's your first rally, you innocently respond "Yes".

That's hardly inviting people to do the whole RV thing to you.

& like I said, that poor girl last year was so frightened by what this eejit bloke had said to her, she didn't want to go, until I convinced her I'd look after her.

All a moot point in her case, as she ended up meeting a bloke who really didn't like bikes and assumed all bikers were like something out of a hollywood movie bike gang and wouldn't allow her to spend a weekend away with me

But if it's happened to one, I daresay it's happened to others.

My first event wasn't a rally, it was the Kent Custom Bike Show, but someone decided it'd be a great idea if I was to enter the wet t-shirt thing as it was my first biker type weekend thing...

They got told in no uncertain terms where to get off.

They listened.

Thankfully.

Anyone who ever went to the Kent Custom will know that it never remained wet "t-shirt" for long.

why do you need to be initiated into rallies, i have never had it done to me nor seen it happen, i think wannabe is right, all it does is put the fear of god into folk which could play on there mind and spoil there weekend as they are always looking over there shoulder

i dont doubt there are some horror stories and its sad but true, as for the people who take things too far then they are indeed eejits in the highest degree, sadly as with all things in life there are exceptions to everything, i can only comment on my experiences and what i would do, been arouond the block!!!! ahem..well i have done a fair few rallies in my time

Nay c'mon Lou.. if theyve never been round bikes or bikers..then i kinda find it hard to beleive they wud venture to a rally. My best mate is not inta bikes at all, though quite a few of us are, so she knows the craic, but we wanted her to try the rally scene so she went to her first rally ( YPR ) a couple of years ago. I wasnt there, but she travelled all of about 1 mile on the back of a another friends bike (after parking her car up...jeeeez lol) Now everyone in her 'circle' knew she was a RV so to speak.. yet nobody put her through any kind of 'initiation' as it happens she had a brill weekend..but said there and then it wasnt her scene.. shes more inta rock-climbing..abseiling..etc ..lol In my opinion these kinda things go on but its not often (never in my opinion) that you see anyone that has been traumatised by the experience. Now im gettin tired and cant think what else i was gonna say..dohhhhhhh but basically, if someones so petrified or just so shy about being made the centre of attention, then surely their mates would know that, and just wouldn't go ahead with it? If not..then they really aint mates at all. Agen..this is just my opinion/view of how ive seen things happen.. cant speak for the majority. I'll probs re-read this thread tomorra and think...WTF?? lol anyways..thats mi two penneth and i aint sayin no more lol

I think you've put it very nicely Kaz I've been rallying for well over 40 years, I was "initiated" in 1964 !! I was treated more "harshly" by a bunch of boy scouts when I was 13 Stripped to my shorts, coated in all kinds of sticky and smelly stuff and "staked out" with rope and LARGE wooden tent pegs (about a foot long driven right in) spreadeagled in a wood and left to the wildlife and insect hoards for 4 hours !! NOTHING like that has ever been done to a rally virgin whilst I've been around. I have not seen, nor been involved in anything that the RV did not agree with or accept as good natured fun. Nobody has ever been injured, or frightened away from rallying to the best of my knowledge and I for one would be quick to intervene if things looked like getting out of hand as would most "experienced" rallyers. After all the object of the "exercise" is to "welcome" the initiate not traumatise them. In all my years of rallying I know of no-one who found the experience traumatic. They have all consented to the "ritual mock humiliation" and if people are so delicate that they cant join in some good natured fun then perhaps the rally scene is not the place to spend their leisure time. After all, they can always say NO and no-one will force it on them. If, as has been said earlier, their friends dont know what they will be up for, then we have to wonder what they are doing there

Well like I say, she really fancied going to a rally, as she'd heard that they were a good craic... I said I'd take her... all fine so far.

Then she gets chatting to someone on here who fills her with fear about how she'll be "got" because she's a rally virgin. I (along with another on here) managed to convince her that she'd be fine, but if she hadn't made friends with me, she'd have had nobody to reassure her and simply wouldn't have gone because of the horror stories she was fed by him (which included saying that she'd be expected to have sex with any club member who wanted to FFS!!!!)

It's not that anything had actually happened, it was just that she was both mortified & horrified at the thought of what this stupid bloke told her was going to happen.

She refused to tell me who it was had filled her head with such crap, as she knew I was in full Rottweiler mode & would've torn him a new one

She was a new convert to biking, hence joining BM so she could meet bikers and she therefore didn't have any circle of existing biking mates who would look out for her. Fortunately, she spoke up to me and we'd formed enough of a friendship for me to be able to set her mind to rest, but it must happen to others?

I know it's all in good fun for the most part, but for those who have never been to a rally, it can be pretty offputting.

And as Roachy said (I think it was Roachy anyway) if you express the feeling that you don't wish to participate, it seems to fuel the fires, so you're on a losing wicket either way!

With respect to rallies I'm still a RV...my late hubby was an ardent fan of rallies before we got together..he still attended the bull dog bashes..but I must admit it did put me off with all the tales he came out with...anyway...back to thread...

I have no excuse for this meet because I am only half an hour away from the Vic too...and anyone wanting to drop by is welcome...thought my meet in August was a bit of a North meets South thing...that's if everyone turns up that says they are turning up...I am looking forward to meeting everyone ...and when I get a bigger bike there will be no stopping me visiting folk more afield...its a bit difficult on Mini V at the moment the furthest I went was to Squires and it took me 3hrs!!!

Been the "victim" of initiation as an apprentice and it was just an accepted fact or "right of passage" into manhood so to speak. In a work environment it's not too bad,ok you can feel a bit of a fool but thats it.When alcohol is introduced ito the mix,it can be very different. I joined a bike club way back in 197mumble mumble who used to meet at a pub known as The Cider House (cant remember it's real name) out in the deepest wilds of Winkfield,Berkshire.Mostly good natured fun and all the other clubs and gangs who met there watched but never participated in other club's initiations.Mine consisted of being tied to a fence while the other members poured cider over my head, pretty tame stuff and it was explained to me that it was their way of buying me a welcome pint each! However,on a few occasions it did get out of hand culminating in visits from Old Bill etc etc. The local residents finally managed to get the place closed down as even though it was out in the forest and away from most areas of inhabitation, they didnt want "those nasty bikers" anywhere near them.A punch up or two is the finest excuse to get a place closed down!
