agree with all advice given lou but think it may be an idea to make it a bit more official. Most councils have debt advisors who are happy to negotiate on your behalf. They only say the same as yourself but big companies tend to take more notice of them.
thats the point exactly, official type letters.they all offer the same service, cab, cccs and the local councils.and they also advise you to pay what you have offered even if your creditor doesnt accept,at least you can say you have been trying to pay
This is a link to an advice site (not the one I originally found but useful to all has other advice on there too)
http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/
Reading through it it is very comprahensive and very informative!!
Yep - that's what I'm doing Pond - paying them anyway, regardless of their acceptance or otherwise.
At this stage, they're only threatening bailiffs, in an effort to get me to own up to the money I have stashed in my mattress
They can't send bailiffs round until after a court has ruled in their
favour, which isn't going to happen all the time I'm paying them
something and have documented evidence of my proposals.
It's all being done officially, with support from the CAB. Once I've
heard back from all the creditors with acceptance or rejection, I'm due
to go back to the CAB for the next stage of the process.
It's just frustrating when I'm offering to pay more than any court in
the land would enforce, that they still refuse to accept it... Makes me rant & vent my frustration on here!
Thanks for that Hull - could be a useful resource if my plans all go pete tong - I hesitate to ask this, but is it too late to edit it so it's not clickable?!
Mate tell me about it. Stopped of to see said tea maker on my way home this evening. 5 minutes before the kettle went on. Nearly got up and walked out i tell ya.
You're doing everything right. Just remember the company cannot enforce anything, neither can there solicitors or debt collectors. Only a judge can do it and, whilst the law may be an ass, very few judges are. If you are paying what you can reasonably afford,,, the decision will always be in your favour. Seen it plenty!!
Note: Work for a licensed credit broker.... hey! You don't owe us do ya??!!
I Furkin HATE, The RBS group!!!!!!

I just can't believe the crap that flows out of some people's mouths at times, it's incredible! Never smelt so much BS in my life, something most definately stinks!
And breathe....ahhhh, that's better.
Stick to your plans Wannabe all you can do is make a reasonable attempt to repay. If it comes to court and you can prove you have made the attempt you will find the court sympathetic.
Once a debt is passed on to debt collectors it can get unpleasant, keep a diary of the time and date everytime someone calls you, turns up on the doorstep, sends you letters etc. Make sure you get the full name of the arrears collector and their company name, asking for their company registration number will confuse them but it is a reasonable request. When they tell you their company operates a "no names policy" tell them you dont deal with anonymous people and that if they can't give you a name ask for an employee reference. Explain that you will not make any agreements verbally and will send them a written reply however simple the question.
Remember it is a legal requirement to notify the other party in a phone call that the call is being recorded, you might not have a recorder but it certainly helps keep them honest!!!
While the OFT guidelines on debt collection are just guidelines and not law the courts take a dim view of harassment. As a general rule the bottom feeding variety of debt collectors who attempt to collect on small amounts <£500 are the worst. Keep your cool, don't get abusive, just be firm and reasonable then hang up, shut the door or whatever.
Why o why do highly intelligent people have no common sense, i have just watched a high ranking very brainy memebr of the University stand looking at a door waiting for it to whoosh open like in Star Trek when theres a big sign at eye level saying press green button to release door. Heaven help us all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
