Yesterday I was sad to find the body of a little fledgling hedge sparrow near my house door, as I'd noticed it in the garden earlier in the day, with it's mama trying to encourage it to fly..... with no luck sadly. Then this afternoon I was drawn to the porch of my house by incessant cheeping of what turned out to be not one, but three young fledgling hedge sparrows, that seemed to have sought sanctuary amongst the tubs of mosaic glass tiles I keep in there. They must have found their way in under the outer door, which for the benefits of fresh air enthusiasts, has a 1 1/2 inch gap under it. ...Ha! no hermetically sealed nonsense here!!! They were obviously distressed as they could hear their mama calling for them.....but couldn't find their way back outside. After quickly making a small woven paper basket type container (blue Peter eat your heart out) to hold them in, in my hand, I caught them, put them together, and then listening for the mama put them (and the basket) in the hedge near my door, as that is obviously where they had come from. Within minutes, she was there, telling them off , and has probably grounded (or more likely hedged )them for the week!
OK so the weather is crap. But today we have MotoGP at Sachsenring, F1 at Silverstone and the mens single tennis final at Wimbledon. And maybe even get a ride out somewhere
