Drat did I miss RK getting his sausage out again???
And returning to the original message in this thread, I too love the banter etc that goes on in all threads... sometimes contribute, sometimes just sit here like a demented person giggling out loud... if I want to know more about an event, I go to the events page (as was very kindly pointed out to me when I first joined...thanks Kwak ) or I PM the person who has posted it. Job done!
Exactly cissy..... thats how it used to be ...just seems lately that a harmless thread is started and before you know it we are havin a laugh whether it be about an event or general chit chat.
The basic info is there at the start and the rest like u say u can get from events page or just pm whoever started the thread.
This site was always about a place where you could have a laugh meet other bikers and make new friends.
What happened ...... just lately it seems its a place to squabble about silly things and before you know it you have a full on argument going on. Lighten up people newbies coming on here and reading some of the threads will think twice about posting or even staying on here.
I am finding it quite disheartening that us newbies seem to be getting blamed for all the recent shinanigans (propbably spelt wrong!!).
I joined the site to meet like minded people and have fun and make friends, which i have done and am most grateful for. I hold my hands up to being guilty of bantering about so called drivel in threads, but i believe that the banter adds to the enjoyment and makes it easier when you meet folk in person, as already stated, topics of conversation have been started, helps to break the ice so to speak.
I have made a huge effort to join in and contibute to events past and present, but some of the comments posted lately have made me feel unwelcome.
As a site that relies on subscrption membership and Matts own personal pocket (which i am sure we are all most grateful for and Matt probably wishes were deeper) to run the site, new people joining is not only inevitable but necessary. New people bring new and sometimes different ideas, which not everyone, irrelevant of length of service will agree with. IMO some of the posts on here could be a definate turn off to people having a look before parting with their money.
Come on folks lets just got on with the job at hand which is making new friends, enjoying bikes and having fun.
Hope I havent offended anybody with any of my remarks, if I have I apologies whole heartedly.
Blimey thats the most serious i've been for a long time, feel quite woozie now, all i can say is BRING ON THE TRUMPETS !!!!!!!!!!!

*propbably* tut tut BJ and you spelled shinanigans so well
Anyway, less of this friendly banter, you're probably putting off some of the 'serious' motorcyclists, whoops sorry, just realised this is the chit chat thread and we're allowed to have fun here
All said in humour before I get my throat ripped out!!
I think, personally, that friendly banter is welcome. I would always prefer to visit a friendly, vibrant forum. Without the banter the forum would seem very sterile and too formal, and dead.
I am very disappointed in the recent squabbling. As a long-termer, I don't blame the newbies, and I have read all the threads and I think that some people need to chill out a bit and stop looking for insults and slights in the smallest things and stop picking fights.
Whenever someone new joins an established group, whether IRL or online, it can take a few chats for everyone to gel, then it feels like you have been around forever. It just takes tolerance and patience on everyones part.
isnt it better to just go straight to "events" for all the relevant information? I find it quick, easy and contains exactly what Im looking for e.g. date, event, venue and contact info for tickets as well as who's going to be there (or not!) I really enjoy the banter and chit chat, its fun and how you get to know who's who and what they're about lol!

BJ, you're deffo in the right job!
Fraglette n CG you're absolutely right about the sterile environment IMO anyone moaning about friendly banter should be made to carry their desk and go sit in the corridor
Im really new on here and i use the chat(But it does get busy and hard to keep up) but I also love reading the banter in the forums it is a good laff a bit like chinese whispers aint it? One person starts and then before you know it everyone has contributed something and its fun. You also get to now people better, there sense of humour and their personalities. so lets not take it all too seriously folks cause life is too short and we are all too old..I love this site its ace, lets not change it eh???
It is really hard to be the 'new' person anywhere... in real life or the internet... I agree.
For every criticism recieved because I rubbed someone up the wrong way, I also received loads of messages from people being welcoming (and they have and will remain 'friends') ... so I guess like anything else, its all about balance. If someone dislikes me or vica versa, then the right and proper thing to do is nothing. No sniping, no nothing. Works for me...and long may it continue. But please do not stop the (often) witty banter, cos it is what keeps me coming back here.
Kwak was only asking if it was possible to reduce the chit chat in the Events thread only, not across the whole board.
I think she was hoping it would make it easier for people to find out details of the events plus the latest updates.
It would also stop the confusion/dummy spitting that recently occured in an Events posting....
Normally yes, but I can see why an events posting could be different. An important piece of information could be lost and someone could turn up to something that had been/ delayed/ cancelled/ moved etc.
I am all for liquid forums but there is a time and a place for everything...
(ooh, how relevant for this thread! )
I think I agreed with that... this post however is not an 'events' type posting.. and because I wasn't here last night or all day today, I had something to add, which i did....
Liquid forums..now ya talking!!
Yeah... it was just a general comment, not in reply to anybody in particular...
Hmm... maybe I should register the term 'liquid forum'. Or maybe form a band....
