Hi George, welcome to BM.

Thats a shame George, maybe another time then. Keep checking the events and you may find something else you want to do, like the BM K.I.S.S. rally in September, should be a good one and a chance to meet lots of people
I have a plan to hijack Ragnar, David can we put that in the route???!!! .. Lets all turn up at his work place and nab him, the boss won't notice he's gone :-P
Hi David, I may be able to make the kiss rally in september it is only 20 miles from where I live have to go get a tent as this will be my first night under canvas for many years so any tips on do`s and don`ts would be good.
Hi George,
If you buy a tent always get one size bigger than you think you need. For instance:- If you want a one person tent, buy a two person tent, if you want a two person tent get a three person one and so on.
As you are on the bike, travel as light as possible.
I always end up taking more clothes than I use, so cut back where possible.
Sleeping bags vary in quality and temperature rating. It's worth spending a little extra for a lightweight down bag.
Air beds also vary in size and thickness. I use a self inflating one. They are not that big, so take up less room on the bike. Also they are very comfortable. If you have back problems it may be best to go for something more substantial.
Cooking is up to you. Stoves and utensils can take up a lot of room and add too much weight. I carry a small meths stove for my morning coffee and then eat what ever is available on site etc.
I have different types of camping equipment for all occasions. But most times I use hiking equipment as it is much lighter and rakes up less room. I can fit all my equipment in two panniers, leaving my top box for my personal stuff, clothes etc.
I enjoy looking in camping shops but it is too easy to buy more than you actually need.
Good luck and have fun
Hi David, They are some sound thoughts and your points are noted. It looks like a trip to go outdoors to get some kit.
Do I need a chair ones of those collapsing ones? (not when u r sitting on it) Do you need an extra small ground sheet for shelter? Do you ever put a sheet between the bike and your tent.
Can you turn up at these rally`s and pay at the gate as I am away on business sometimes and might need some flexibility when i book flight as the customers dont play ball sometimes? George
