with guidance .. left a bit .. right a bit .. or should that be port and starboard .. anyone know the difference
looking from the back of the boat to the front:-
left is port,
right is starboard
It will be the bit with the long bent pole ,
this is what you move from side to side to steer.
The man will give training before peeps are let loose with their boats (not that anyone will take any notice)
Shame on you ladies...you will be saying lasses can't ride motorcycles next
I've cruised hundreds of miles with an all girl crew and I know how to operate a narrow boat & work the locks....will leave clearing out the weed hatch for someone with long arms though
Can't tell me left from right so never stood a chance with port & starboard lol
And those that have difficulty remembering which side is port and which is starboard, just remember the word posh!
A bit of boring information; the word posh comes from when passenger ferries started taking people from the UK to India many moons ago and the rich were able to pay for a south facing cabin on the way out of the UK and a south facing cabin on the return trip.
Geoff... going from the UK to India, if you paid for a SOUTH facing place that would be STARBOARD (right) in the direction of travel (East). So that doesn't make sense. Port = Left (when facing back to front)
