So who's responsibility is it ? To ensure that the planet is in a fit condition to leave to future generations ? "Official" religious institutions ? Political institutions ? OR ....... Individual involvement ?

I dont think any thing we are going to do will make any difference now the planet is Fd and we are all to blame as we have all played a part in its destruction,

Just because we Fd it Doesn't mean we shouldn't TRY to fix it Or do we just give up

This planet isn't fd up.
It's survived way way worse things than us puny humans can throw at it.
It's quite astonishing that there's life here at all really.
99% of species have died out in the passage of history, but life finds a way in some form or other.

That said, we could certainly get our arses in gear and sort out our destructive tendencies. We're just shooting ourselves in the foot basically. Given the collective intellect of the human race, we as a species are incredibly naive sometimes!!

The best quote I ever heard, attributed to a native american I think, is;
"We don't inherit the world, we borrow it from our children"
A good ethos in my opinion.

Personally I'd like more people to get their heads together and sort this shit out, but human nature seems to be the failing point.
Why worry about tomorrow if you can satisfy your own greed today?
Kinda sad, but like I say, life will carry on.
Maybe the cockroaches will rule the world after we've killed ourselves off? Maybe it'll be the lizard's turn again?

Changing the subject completely;

Who was the real king of Rock 'n Roll?

Elvis or Little Richard?

I'd say Little Richard had the edge.. I love all that stompin' & jivin'.. throwing each other over your shoulder, inbetween and underneath your legs, back up, twizz round, foot sliding, foot tapping dance moves.. Wow, it must have been great fun and what a great way to keep fit..

Steady on there girl You'll have us all sweaty and out of breath at that rate Never thought about "keeping fit" when I used to do it though Just got on with it Then went outside, kicked the bike into life, and roared off into the night

I love to boogie.. it makes you feel happy don't you think .. I like how men and women danced together. Its not something you see very often these days.. Zumba is similar to aerobics/keep fit/dance class to a Latin American style of music..

Do you think it is true that people only believe what they want to believe? Or do they just try to convince others of their beliefs regardless of whether they actually believe it themselves?

Yes to a great extent, or they would not believe it in the first place.. I think there are alot of 'do as I say, not as I do' people.. although it is difficult to determine what advantages can be gained from trying to convince others about something you have no belief in yourself. Thankfully we humans have intellect and we are more than capable of sussing these things out for ourselves.. Eventually Question is, how many people would actually tell the other person if they thought their beliefs were not sincere?.. 'With all due respect, I think you're full of shit!'.. or words to that effect.. I think people are more inclined to 'off-load' their concerns or dissatification of others to others, rather than to the person themselves.. I've fired other peoples bullet's in the past (as well as my own) and on most occasions I've turned around to find the troops running in the opposite direction. There appears to be a 'put up and shut up' attitude, especially in the work place. People are wary to speak up. 'Keeping the peace' is all well and good. 'Lets not rock the boat'.. 'Anything for a quiet life' approach.. Job security and financial stabilty are factors in keeping people quiet while the fat cats ride rough-shod over the good, hard working people..

Well Penny, that should have "lightened the load" a little I hope you feel better for it I agree with you 100% People CAN and DO take up a contrary stance just for effect But they are usually "shallow" creatures who are soon exposed So have a nice day and don't let "life" get in the way PS I do like to "boogie", I too think it's "good for the soul"

Wow powerful stuff in here. I think its nice to see things as an opinion and accept that we all have a right to our own. Personally I am always open to new ideas and new opinions.. Life can be very enlightening then.

WOW. Thank you for your very intensive answer Bad Penny. There is definitely passion within your words. I am not convince that all of these so called religious leaders actually believe everything they preach. I think it is similar with politicians and CEO's of large companies. They are there to get what they can out of us, the mere menials. Regarding those people who let you think they believe in what they do or have said, It is a fact from my experience, that there are those who may tell you they didn't do so well in an exam, for instance. You are left feeling thats OK, now at least I fit in as I did not do to well either. However when the results are announce you find they got distinctions or credits etc, where you only have a pass or a fail. Why do people do that and what do they gain from it? I find similar things happen in the work place, where people give you an impression they are not so good at their job, but that is not the impression the boss gets. There is a definite ploy there in attempting to get you to lower your performance, in order for them to shine. An example of the last person standing. Not long after I first got married, they introduced the new style census form, requesting a lot more information than most people were happy to give. We as a couple decided not to complete the form. We just gave the names of people living at the address (that we considered a census). As a result we were sent a court summons to pay a fine or attend court. We alloted to have our day in court, as we are all entitle to do. On the day of the court, it turned out that there were approx. 50 people there for the same thing. Because of this the judge decided to postpone to a later date, due to not enough court time available that day. We decided to use this time to rally together as many of the other parties as possible. Twenty five people agreed to stand with us and fight it in court. As time went by they gradually all dropped out and paid the fine. So on the day of the hearing it was just me and my wife in the dock. We had informed the local and national newspapers but only the locals attended. There was quite a lot said that day in court and at the end of it the judge sympathize, found us guilty and set the fine at a fraction of the government stated figure. They could not find us not guilty, as we did not comply with the governments requirements, but the fine was a token gesture to which we viewed as a win Well it's something to read anyway
