Looking at the more scenic route myself – loosely via Glossop / Hebden Bridge / Keighley / Kettlewell / Leyburn (or elsewhere lost in the dales)? - aiming for Barnard Castle – then Middleton However if weather is crap then the quickest route would be fine as well
For those that have joined the throng late or not answered my earlier scoffing message...
If you want to guarantee getting fed at either the Teesdale or the Forresters give them a call and book a table - it is Easter weekend and they will be busy.
There is (or was) some accommodation still available at both of the above pubs but don't assume there will be if you turn up on spec.
The same goes for the campsites, if the weather is decent they will be busy too so I would advise booking ahead.
On the positive side most tourists are lazy sods and won't go much further than the High Force waterfall so we should still get plenty of traffic free riding.
I have booked accommodation at the Teesdale, but not booked a table. I think one of your previous posts you mentioned that you had booked 3 tables of 6 for Friday night. Not sure if I need to book my own table? Also what time have you booked the tables? Give me some idea what time I should get there, in case a scenic route becomes a bit too scenic.
I think I may have maxxed out my weather pixie credit. We've had three effing glorious weekends up here in Scotland, and in MARCH!!, so not sure I have anything left in the bank for Easter. Sorry in advance if we get ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ (but heck it's been worth it).
I have just been on to the Teesdale to book another table of 6 and they said they will need everyone to pre-order before the day due to the volume of food! They asked us to wait a couple of weeks until they get their new summer menu up on the website. Just a heads up to make sure we pre-order before the day:)
Hang fire on this folks till I spoken to get Teesdale. The plan was just to have tables reserved, NOT us all sitting down together in black tie and frocks and eating at the same time.
I'll update you all later. This might mean me going to the pub for a feed and a pint or three, but that's OK I don't mind putting myself out 😆
Does anyone remember Danny? Lovely, but incomprehensible, lad. But he crossed women-kind and they never found his remains. The clue is in the word... Woman. An abbreviation of 'woe to man'. He was warned... Alas a diet of deep fried mars bars and ironbru had reduced his mind to a state of mush and he was no longer capable of basic survival diplomacy.
Lunch meet on Good Friday (15th April) The Nook Farm Shop & Cafe, Castle Nook, Alston, CA9 3BG
Break the journey if heading to Teesdale from the north or west, or just a ride out for anyone local to the area. We'll be riding down from central Scotland and happy to hook up with others at Abington or Gretna by arrangement.
Arrive between 12:30 and 13:00 for lunch and natter with whoever else is there and move on at leisure.
The Nook is less than an hour from Middleton-in-Teesdale Izzy so why not treat yourselves to a lie in and meet a bit later. Either way I'll most likely meet you over there for a coffee and to give you an update on the latest potholes and sheep / lambs over the moor.
Danny would need to stop and roast some roadkill if we left lunch any later! Could stretch to arriving 13:00 - 13:30? No hurry to move on from there, rooms are all secured.
Update on the Friday feeding frenzy. We will have seating for 30 and the back room to ourselves. Because of the size of the party the pub is asking that food is ordered in advance, I will be circulating the menu over the next week or so once it becomes available. We're booked in to eat at 8:00 which will allow for anyone who gets lost on the way. This is of course going to be chaos with the bill so I'm investing in some sturdy locks and online who does a runner won't be doing so on their bike 😁
