Britain is a mongrel 'nation', yes.
That's the point. However, it's a state, not a proper Nation.
A Nation has a common people, heritage, language, history, system of belief and moral etc etc. To be part of a Nation, you must have shared in all this for a great deal of your life, contribute to it and be recognised/accepted by the people of that nation to have done so, thus making you one of them.
To be part of a State, as Britian holds it, you have to fill out the right forms, spend a bit of time in the country and then receive your passport. That's all.
I regard myself as English. I have lived in England as part of that nation, as defined above all my life. Most of my ancestors were English, dating way back to before 1180. The land where my family originally settled during the Anglo-Saxon Migration (not Invasion, but I'll destroy that myth later if you want ) still bears the same name as my Surname, spelling relatively unchanged. It also still bears the same landmarks for which it was named.
HOWEVER...... Despite all this Englishness in me, the government has decided that I am actually Scottish, simply on the basis of my parents were holidaying there and I happened to have been born over the border!!!
Nothing against the Scots - Lovely people. I'm just not Scottish as far as I can see.
The 'Welsh' were indeed in these lands before us, as were the Scots, Celts, Gauls and so on. These were the Britons that the Romans governed before their empire fell over and they buggered off home to ignominy...
However, the true English - the word comes from the germanic tribe of Angeln, of Anglo-Saxon fame, who settled here. The language and all that other gubbins comes from them.
Incidentally, Wales is supposedly an Old English term, meaning foreigner!!
The Angeln, Saxons, Jutes and so on simply wanted to be left alone to live their lives. This meant that they generally didn't take any shit from invading Viking cousins. We gained a reputation for being xenophobic - Possibly because every time we met a foreign race, they were trying to invade!!
Since 1066, the English national identity has slowly vanished beneath the various foreign rulers. We became the British Empire, a ruler and slaver of foreign lands, who now cry 'infidel' at us and seek vengeance. In the old days we were a proud, fiercely defensive race who stood up for ourselves and our way of life.
At the time, this also covered the many different races who were in these lands before us, including the African regiments left behind by their Roman employers. It was a relatively peaceful and fun time.
I'd like to see something like that today - None of this sueing left, right and centre and everyone expecting handouts, but people standing up for themselves, making the effort and making it happen. We can intergrate with the other cultures, but I don't think we should do so at the expense of our own culture. This is our land - We should not be crawling and pandering to them - Any other nation expect it of us in their lands, but NOT in our own.
This is just letting them walk all over us and, should anyone like me dare speak out about this, we are labelled dissenters, troublemakers and so on.
Where is it writ that me and mine must lay down and die so that what we took centuries to establish can just be lifted away by someone else.
Nature's law says only the strong survive. Why is there a human law against us being strong? Not trying to take over the world here or anything, just hold on to the little piece of it that is ours.
You want the scrotes to stop messing with your life? Smack them down so they know not to feck with you.
You want the foreigners to stop coming over here and taking everything? Get out there and take it first.
You don't like the government policy? Make them change it so that they govern you, rather than destroy you.

They thought that was enough and went home. Henry resumed this Dissolution of the Monasteries because he knew he could get away with it. Today government do the same and, though not so overtly they still don't bother even trying to cover it up.
Again, we're back to the Victim thing - Modern media and law teaches you that you're a victim and must play the suffering card in order to get anything. Hard work is longer rewarded, so do yourself an injury or get yourself up the duff, overact and dance for your dollar.

I haven't a clue who I am... born in the States to Irish parents, (because Dad was posted to the British Embassy at the time), who each just so happened to be born in England due to their respective Fathers' postings...
Then again... I mostly live in a world of my own anyway
It doesn't generally affect me too much, although on one occasion I did have motor insurance cancelled on me, due to the fact I'd been born in the States. Not entirely sure what that has to do with the level of risk I might pose? As I left the country before I reached the age of 2, my driving experience there was limited to one Summer when I went back to work as a Nanny at 17! lol
My whole point is that I don't want to be a victim and to take handouts from the state just so I can have housing. I have always worked but when the ave wage is 11k and the cost of a 3 bedroom house is around 180k and to rent is an average of £730, what am I suppose to do?
There is no-one you can rant to as no-one has the power to change things, not even the local mp's.

Precisely Scary... and this is supposed to be where it's at... I seem to remember some sort of Government initiative about encouraging folk "back" into the workplace and single parents being singled out for such encouragement.
It doesn't take much to understand just why so many people assume "victim" status, when it's just about the only way one is able to provide a reasonable roof over one's childrens heads!
I do hope that you are claiming your working family tax credits though... IMO they are NOT a "benefit" or a handout... you're supposed to get a tax break for providing us lot with the next generation That, and the fact that so much employment doesn't provide you with anything like a living wage.

Very good posts indeed. We need a strong leader to lead us. Unfortunately, (According to the history books) any strong 'Apparent' new leaders have to gain popularity very quickly, so as not to be singled out and dealt with by 'The powers that be'. This country isn't as democratic as most of us are led to believe.
I get the impression that the 'British Government' does its utmost to appease 'Ethnic' and 'Invited' British citizens but much less for the ones who's families have lived here for generations. Votes get you into Government no matter what cultural background the votes come from..

And I think he is wrong in his article anyway... it doesn't refer to a certain class, it refers to a certain behaviour - there is a huge difference!! Meanings get distorted other time.. deal with it.. move on.... you don't have to go around banning everything you don't personally agree with.
