Rule 21

Weapons/Guns being held by a person will not be allowed in profile photos. Neither will photos representing gangs or other threatening behaviour be allowed.

As far as i am aware the rule has always been enforced,

Sorry but it's just impossible for mods to say which photos are motorcycle gang members trying to put themselves on here representing their gang, with guns etc.... and someone who's just in the army, standing holding a gun at home.

Can you imagine how complicated the rules would have to be to allow some with guns and not others? We'd have to start going into the clothing being worn with the gun, location, etc etc... it's impossible and would make you all even more angry.

So, simple rule to stop motorcycle gangs representing themselves here... NO WEAPONS. Also no back patches either. These have been rules from day one but I know sometimes we've let one or two pics slip, like yours Johnny. I'm assuming a new moderators has removed it... and officially they were right to do so.

If a gang member comes here showing himself in an aggressive photo, sawn-off shotgun on his motorbike and we delete the picture because he has a weapon... he could then say "Well Johnnytb has a gun on his pic". Get it?

Bleddy Doctor rushing me thro my consultation, especailly galling as every other time I've been kept waiting 20 minutes at least before being called in to his room. I told him about something that is worrying me and he dismissed me with 'that will have to be another appointment' and looked at his watch! To add insult to injury he gave me a script for some ointment (I put a request in for it and collect it 2 days later) and didn't think to check my records to see if I have any allergies, I was too flustered and forgot to ask him about the contents, took the script to the chemist and the ointment home but can't use it cos it's got lanolin in it. Don't they look at our docs before they prescribe?

BTW this issue shows exactly how complicated and difficult it can be running a site like BM! It's impossible to keep everyone happy but sometimes it's just necessary to get a good balance.

If you want to propose a new rule, that's SIMPLE for members and mods to follow/understand, replacing the existing rule... I'd be happy to put it to the vote.

99% of people here will not want gang members holding guns as they will feel threatened (especially the ladies), but the same 99% will be happy with someone in the army showing him and his mates in Afghanistan.

...feel free to write up a new replacement rule and I'll implement it if it's easy for everyone to understand and doesn't allow too big of a "Grey area"

I understand totally about, guns gangs and dangerous weapons and as you say it is difficult to keep an even keel if we split a rule......just feel their is a huge difference between a wanna be Ranbo or bike gang/ gang banger shown off his penis extension and someone at work... ie military, police, CP etc....but fair one I removed it myself...but felt it needed a grumble as I woke up to it.....

And remember kids guns don't kill people...people kill people! It only dangerous in the wrong hands!

I'm surprised you were only asked to remove one, there are still lots on your profile lol.
As Matt says, the problem is he has to go with the "one rule for all" scenario unless the rules are re-written as stated above. When new Moderators are trained up and join the team they will obviously try and get folk to adhere to the rules of the site and profiles are flagged up each time a member edits them which is why yours has probably come to light despite being overlooked all this time. I don't take offence at your photos and appreciate anyone putting themselves in a position of having to carry weapons in order to defend our country, but the rule as it stands at the moment has to be across the board so the weapons shots should go.

Ok if we play that game..

21. Profile photos must be in accordance with the following rules.  Failure to cooperate will result in your photos being remove or your account deleted...

Your "Main Profile Photo" must show your face clearly. If you are using a picture which has your partner in it also, please make it clear which one is you, as some site names do not give a clue to gender. It should also be as recent as possible.

Moderators best get working...as you say, can't have one rule for one and different for another....good luck with this one! How many on here with distant shots....hats on etc....I reiterate must show your face clearly....... Not so easy now, but the rules must be enforced! I have removed all but a couple of my military ones, if they go I go!

It was me who sent JTB the pm regarding his pic and as i said then, weapons are not allowed in pics and until the rule changes i will moderate accordingly.

The mods work hard every day to make sure that everybodies profiles, pics and all adhere to site rules. You must remember that every time you edit your profile it has to be moderated again. So mods have new and exisiting profiles to check.

If anybody sees a profile that does not adhere to site rules then please report this to the mods and it will be dealt with. After all we are all only human and prone to the occasional lapse.

All I can say is if this rule is enforced so should the others, that includes all pics that do not show the person up close and clearly..... Jackie that includes your pic moderate accordingly

Started off as a grumble when I woke up but now the band wagon is starting so lets get these rules enforced I can start trawling now but thats not my job.... always the same on here....somethings are just better left alone when they are not causing any harm...

Just as well this isn't on the active topics that most members read or it would spark off a right arguement...

The question of profile pics was put to a vote and the outcome was

Your "Main Profile Photo" must show your face clearly. If you are using a picture which has your partner in it also, please make it clear which one is you, as some site names do not give a clue to gender. It should also be as recent as possible.

We are working through them as quick as we can, we are not superhuman, we have day jobs as well, like i said if it bothers folk that much then report ones you come across.

It sparks off the same argument continually unfortunately. There will be lots of photos that do not comply, on a regular basis, and the team of Mods get to them as and when they can as unpaid volunteers. Editing your profile "highlights" it for the Mods to re-check and approve/take action. It is impossible for all photos on the site to conform at any one time without having folk wait for their account to be checked before going live. Each rule is open to interpretation to an extent by the Mod checking the profile so there will always be slight discrepancies with camera angle, distance etc., but nudity, weapons, helmets etc. are obvious clear rules which don't allow for any interpretation.

hey i was passive until i started getting told not only to remove my profile pic which is me at work and not as a gang banger....then being told I should delete the ones on my profile.....

as i spent 22 years in the forces and was a member on here for a few years before I left I guess its safe to say I would have a few on there.... no one had a problem with any of my pics and now after 3 or 4 years it is now an issue...its little wonder people leave the site..

....shakes his head and goes for Dinner! Thinking a common sense approach should have been applied here!!

ok let's stop the silly band wagon and be more constructive please, this is going nowhere!!!

Suggest a new rule if you don't like it! Or reword it.

For example... "No firearms or weapons may be shown UNLESS it is clearly demonstrating your profession in the police, armed forced or otherwise."

????

I did ask this morning that you guys come up with a new rule suggestion, so God only knows why a band wagon was created and got rolling, rolling, rolling.

Matt @ 19/03/2012 14:41

ok I propose a rewording of the following rule in 21 of the Rules

Weapons/Guns being held by a person will not be allowed in profile photos. Neither will photos representing gangs or other threatening behaviour be allowed.

To read

"No pictures of members holding weapons i.e firearms may be shown UNLESS it is clearly demonstrating it was or is used by you in your daily profession in the armed forces, police or otherwise and shown in a professional manner"

or words to that effect or I will cry Jackie knows I still love her

I personnally feel the rule should remain as it is. It's difficult enough modding profiles/pics etc without working out if someone is in the forces, police etc cos rest assured it won't be obvious what occupation the weapon relates to! And what about those folk that have hobbies which include weapons eg clay pigeon shooting? It could be argued that they are harmless pics too! Btw, I have nothing but respect and admiration for the work our servicemen do
