Like the Elephant in Germany and the Crystal Rally in Norway, is one of the Great European rallies usually held in the bitter depths of winter. It’s where the enthusiasts go to talk shop, indulge in nostalgia, tell stories of their two-wheel exploits, make abusive comments about car drivers and fine weather motorcyclists (who only bring their motorcycles out in the summer).
The Conwy and District Motorcycle Club started the Dragon Rally in 1960 and it takes place in winter in the beautiful mountains of Snowdonia, North Wale and serves as a meeting place for motorcyclists all over the Continent.
Participants are limited to 1400 and they're not told the location of the camp site until they have reported to one of the caravans, which are positioned within 6 to 15 miles of it, for ticket stamping. Once there, they enjoy the Conwy & DMCC’s warm welcome and hot soup as well as the local amenities including some fabulous pubs.
Each year the Dragon Rally badge is either red or white or green the colours of the Welsh Flag, and is generally classy and collectable.
The venue has been held at numerous sites including:-
Bryn Bras Castle, Llanrug
Gwrych Castle, Abergele
Tyddyn Rhonwy, Llanberis
The Riverside located between Betws-y-Coed and Capel Curig
Ty’n-y-Berth Nant Gwynant,
Beddgelert Garth Farm,
Twin Lakes and Llanrwst, Gwynedd.
Tickets at £20 (30€) each
