Norman, I'm guessing that's the mechanical variety, if it's the feathered variety, the bird will be dead afore tomorrow nite if it's upside down in the canal
It looks like the Crane (which weighs around 64 tons) was navigating the footpath around a lock area when the whole of the canal path collapsed... seem that 64 tons may not have been right for that area of the path... but at least no one was injured... and the driver will probably become infamous!!
He was lucky then. My mate with his son in the cab with him, we're sitting still eating their sandwiches a few years ago in a small tractor with a hedge cutter on it and the same happened. Neither of them survived. Their job was to trim the waterside banks on the Kennet and Avon canal. It is no longer allowed for any vehicle to be within 6' of the canal.
