Just a heads up that next week on Wednesday 23rd February, sometime during the night, we'll be moving to a new IP address. Same provider but they're having some internal shuffle.
I'm expecting an absolutely nightmare and really worried about it. Some things you should be aware of...
1) There will be some downtime when the IP changes. This will be while the DNS records update. Your own ISP might have some delay also before they update the records. So if you find BM isn't reachable, try again after a few hours
2) Emails might not be received successfully. It takes some time to rebuild a good reputation as an email server. We currently have an A* reputation so gmail and hotmail accept almost all our mails. But when we start sending from a new IP address they get much stricter and it can/will cause trouble.
HOW CAN YOU HELP??
Please go to your email provider via their webmail login and add the following to your "safe senders" or "safe domains" or "whitelist"...
hal @ bikermatch .co.uk (without spaces!) bikermatch.co.uk
So the server email address (remove the spaces) and also the main domain name (without the www.)
On Wednesday, you should be able to see the website around 10am again at the latest. Let me know if not by reaching out to me via https://www.facebook.com/BikerMatchCoUk
And wish me luck :-/ I'm really nervous it'll be a catastrophe.
I expect you all to use the downtime to reflect on your lives. The past, present and future. Keep the curtains closed and write poems all day. Once BM is back online, post your poems here for our entertainment.
IP has changed. So far so good folks with the exception of IPv6 which seems to be broken. Not gonna worry about it right now though. Will get some sleep and pick this up tomorrow. Goodnight
FYI I will turn on the red warning banner whenever I think there's a chance of the site going offline (rebooting things). If the banner isn't there then you should be safe to use the site and write messages etc
Thanks. Making good progress now. ipv6 seems to be fixed but there was also some serious performance issues with the upload speed. Tweaked some hardware stuff and rebooted a few times and now it magically works.
