For the past 2 years my ears have been ringing 24hrs a day. It's been horrendous. Unable to fall asleep, read a book etc. Short temper with my kids and just feeling unhappy generally.
Well I've been from one doctor to another. Ear tests, brain MRI, you name it.
Last week I spoke to a tinnitus specialist who looked at all the tests and reviewed my history. He is convinced that riding motorbikes on the motorway for many years has caused this. Even though I haven't done much in recent years, I certainly did between age 17 and 24 or so. At least 2 hours per day on the motorway at high speed, often with music on too!
So I have a big dip in my hearing in both ears around the same frequency that my tinnitus is at.
I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
So my advice to you all.... PLEASE wear ear plugs if riding at high speed for long periods of time.
You have my sympathy Matt My problem is loss of hearing in the higher frequencies through playing in bands from my teens to early thirties. I'm OK in quiet places but anywhere loud like a busy pub and I can't focus on conversations. It's nothing as bad as what you are suffering but it's still a hassle. To preserve what's left I always wear earplugs.
