"robin hood used to hang out there"Most Robin Hood legends put him in the 12th century, the Major Oak is approximately 900 years old (IE. 12th century), so Robin and his buddies hung around this sapling for some reason?Seems unlikely. Count me in for a day out though.

Yep, Googled Major Oak to see what you were talking about. I'm always a bit sceptical about stories involving Robin Hood as they generally include Richard de Lyon too. French dude who hardly spent any time in England and never came back here after the crusades, yet always seems to crop up in the myths.
