Whilst out for a blat
round the West Country the other day I was quite surprised to see 2
guys, pulling out of a petrol station as I pulled in so I didn't get
a chance to speak to them, with UBGB MC patches.
Many, many, years ago I
was a member of UBGB MC and I had assumed that time had caught-up up
with them.
I searched the net and
can find only a few references; nothing national or in the southern
half of the country. Does anybody know where they are to be found
nowadays? Are they worth looking-up?
Spookily enough I was with the UBGB's back in 74/75 when they set up in Salisbury, we used to use the Royal George I think it was not far from the bus station. The summer of 76 was the last time I was with them, a few big runs that summer, Stockbridge comes to mind 350+ bikes, plus many nights sleeping on beaches along the south coast.
Some real halcyon days, I've still (I thinK) got my hand sown colours before they were professionally made.
After failing to get a group going in Basingstoke we were regular visitors to the Royal George in the seventies. My memories of most the UBGB rallies are quite hazy. I vaguely remember; Stockbridge, a quarry on Portland Bill and a convoy of UBs being escorted by plod on bikes from pub to camp site at chucking out time.
I still have my original small patch and rockers (I recently found my cut-off while having a clear-out). I'd forgotten that UBGB was an 'MC' rather than an 'MCC'.
Ah yes remember Stockbridge well, we ended up at a fair and as you say escorted by Hants "finest", a different time a different "old bill".
Portland Bill - slept on Chesil Beach too many times to remember and yes the MC was in red in the centre of the roundal
Many times, many years - the soul lives forever.
